re: Help WIth Android Messaging - Update in OP With ?

Have you tried gosms? It has an option in the send settings to support group texting with iPhones. The only annoyance is you'll get two notifications for each text that is a group text but every text will show up in one conversation like it does on the iPhone. That's really my only gripe about android. For those of you on 4.2.2 when you get a group text or a picture text do you receive two notifications?

only one notification. It's smooth as can be.

Group texting is legit one of the main things keeping me with an iPhone. All I do is group text with friends.

I have a nexus 4 and my group messaging works perfectly. I'm pretty sure it was working prior to the 4.2.2 update. There is a setting to treat group messages like MMS and no double alerts.

Guys, help me out here. I am doing everything you are saying and I've tried both Handcent and GoSMS and no matter what I try, the same thing happens. I am able to create a group message and get responses but if someone starts a group text with me included, I never get anything from them nor the parties responding.

Turning on group mms in go sms is what works for me. If you've done that and you're still having problems then I'm not sure what is wrong.

Damn I know it's got to be something simple. I read on a few Android message boards that you have to make sure you # is totally disconnected with all iPhone / iMessage. ATT is telling me it is. This phone is bad arse but I am a big group texter

Just in case anyone lost sleep over my problem, I fixed it. Had to go to Apple website, log in and un-register my product and delete all of my contact information.

I'm on go sms pro and followed the instructions in this thread. The kicker for me was finding this thread and logging into apple. When you log in, you have to deactivate your account and erase your phone numbers as well. Also make sure your old iphone imessages are off.

Phate, I am getting this 2nd notification as well. How do you delete this in the app? The notification will come back with no text, only the contact name and there's no way to delete it unless you go into the stock messaging app.

for the love of god, i hope the group messaging is fixed in 4.2.

the only thing that iOS has over anything android is the group messaging function, and it's been a pain wondering why they haven't addressed it yet natively. (at least hopefully until now with 4.2 anyway).

The only reason group messaging sucks on Android is because any attempt to group SMS messages is a hack. SMS is a 1-to-1 message. iMessage doesn't use SMS... it is basically a chat service. There are numerous similar services available on Android, such as Google Talk, that give the same functionality. Apple simply merged their chat service with their SMS app to make it easier on their users, ignoring the fact that it gets messy when those messages get sent to users on other platforms that they don't allow to connect to their servers.

Go to application settings and make handcent your default messaging app. Then enable group messaging at the bottom Go to retrieve settings. Select auto retrieve and self check and auto download
Where on Handcent do you see this?

My group messaging with Handcent works fine. The only thing that it does SOMETIMES is it will individually send everyone in the group a text that meant to get with the group. Other than that I have never had a problem
I have the same problem every so often. And occasionally, if I don't make sure the text sends (pops up in convo with the sending circle thing) then it will just not send and it won't save as draft either. These are the only two small issues. Which, IMO, are nothing compared to the headache go sms was for me.

Did you previously have an iphone?

Eta I see you figured it out. My next suggestion was making sure your messages were still going your number as an imessage. I had an issue with this too. iMessage was snatching all my texts before they could make it to me.
