Define what is enough fog to use them and what's not.

Sounds like something my attorney would at.

that would be up to the discretion of the officer. you consult your attorney over a traffic ticket?

I have a toyota too. I forget they are one. I'm going to just leave them off. I don't want to get pulled over for this.

Yea that's pathetic. I'll be extremely pissed If I hit a freakin deer while taking my son home deep in AP one night b/c they are off. But I'd probably hit that fricker anyway b/c I'll be posting on the OT or FBing.

Exactly. We have same dash and front end. You just leave em on most of time and other cars don't mind so why do the cops?

you can turn them off though its either on the stalk next to the headlight switch or on a button to the right of the column.

All German cars have this, as it's against the law to operate a car in fog in Germany without a rear fog light

eh eh. Bimmers have a different fog light switch setup in europe that activates the rear fog lights.

Only front fog lights on North American Bimmers.

I've definitely seen it on Audis(owned by VW so it makes sense your jetta had it) and Range Rovers.

Front fog switch and rear fog switch on Euro cars.

Very annoying feature when it's not Foggy.

No but I'm making the point here that how can they define what's enough fog to have them on?

My issue is, due to current laws, I could be in violation of something and the fog lights would give the officer an ability to catch me for another crime, that shouldn't be a crime, but is.

lol

re: Watchout They are writing tickets for foglights now

I think those are legal. I have factory fog lights on a Trailblazer and on a Silverado. They are integrated into the bumper. They are common on pickups and SUVs from all brands.

I think they come on automatically.....and they are very helpful in rain and to illuminate the sides of the roads to see the eyes of critters that could potentially be crossing in front of me.

I'd fight a ticket like that if it were my vehicles....but we don't have aftermarket lamps.

Those LED strips some of the newer cars have look silly, but they don't blind anyone. BMW and Cadillac use them.

Right. But what he's saying is that people with Toyotas and probably other vehicles don't have a reminder or any reason to turn them off. There's no LED on the dash like brights nor are people hi-beaming us. It's just not fair that all fog lamps are deemed equal and illegal. If they factory lights and set low like on most SUVS and trucks then we should get a pass.

I think F-250s are that way with the small close together lights that come on with the headlights.

I 1000% agree, I just live in a place where cops look for reasons to pull people over.

I was pulled over by seven cop cars one night, and the officer with a gun drawn told me the reason was "because my passenger didn't have his seatbelt on" "I decided to follow you for a few miles to see if you did anything else. I lost you and thought you were evading me, even though you may have not known I was following you. So anyway I called for a 'felony' stop"
My passenger was the son of a white shirt, that officer was busted down to a jailor for putting a gun in his 16 year old sons face.

Are people confusing DRLs with fog lights?

I agree, that and the people with one headlight burned out, who drive with their brights on so they won't get stopped. I hate those people.

A headlight is cheap and takes minutes to change.

Learn something new everyday. I never turn my foglights off on my Pilot.

My old Audi had the 3rd extra bright brake light. Never used it and found it by accident.
