One of my top ten.

It was a template for future grunge music (1990)

Grunge literally became alternative rock once it went mainstream.

I have problems with these labels but you gotta put them in categories or risk getting corrected.

I always felt much "grunge" was alternative.

It seems to me alternative pretty quickly degenerated into a gayer and gayer version of its previous self. Grunge on the other hand was short lived but remained grungy all the while.

re: Your favorite grunge song
Grunge was alternative when it came on the scene IMO. It pushed others under the alternative label into more experimental stuff.

Spacehog was considered Alternative, but it fits in with all the other 90's stuff

STP seemed to precede grunge. Once grunge hit, you'd have to say Outshined, State of Love and Trust, and Down in a Hole are defining anthems of the new sound. Man, that was some fun shite to be a part of as a fan of live performances.

STP was a part of the unfortunate fall out of the grunge scene...

Grunge was a terrible label to encapsulate the music coming out of the pacific NW... specifically, Seattle... Musically, Nirvana had very little in common with Pearl Jam, other than geography...

Chloe/Crown of Thorns - Mother Love bone

This gets my vote, and has been a top-5 favorite song since I was a child

Top 5 90's song but is it grunge? Its alternative as frick but not grunge.

It's about as grunge as it can be just from the fact that they're from Seattle. I'd consider them grunge over STP or Smashing Pumpkins who i don't consider grunge at all. Maybe I just associate the grunge label more to a region than an actual genre of music.

This. OR Nearly Lost You by Screaming Trees.

There is no such genre as grunge, really. It was a marketing term used by Sub Pop. So, any band on Sub Pop, or from that scene (Soundgarden was on SST), in the early 90s is technically "grunge".
