Cobb had a prett rough life in general. His mom killed his dad. His dad didnt want him to play ball, told him not to come home a failure. Honestly Cobb respected his dad and his murder put a lot of bitterness inside him.
Juan Gonzalez is high on my personal list. Met him when I was about ten, which was 1998 when he was awesome, and he pretty much wouldn't give me the time of day. Tore down the life sized poster of him on my room after that one lol

Don't forget about John Rocker. 
You can make the case that his mouth destroyed his baseball career. He was never the same pitcher after the SI interview.

No "kind of" about it. He was/is a prick.
Only difference is that the internet age was not in full swing yet during his career, and he had an amazing marketing machine. He came off as so extremely likeable and a role model. It's only been relatively recently that all of the dark stories about him have come to light.
He was definitely my favorite player in the 90s. Now I can't stand him. Nothing but a phony.
