Víctor Valdés' representatives have dropped a bombshell on Barcelona by telling the club that the goalkeeper will not be renewing his existing contract and will instead leave when it expires on 30th June 2014. A statement issued to Spanish news agency 'EFE' reads: "Victor Valdés' agents informed FC Barcelona in a meeting earlier this afternoon of the player's irrevocable decision not to extend his contract, meaning negotiations over his salary will not be entered into". Valdés will be 32 at the end of his deal. The shotstopper recently admitted that "keeping goal for Barça is tough in all senses", coming with a huge amount of pressure that he has been putting up with "for many years".

Who is the top young prospect in Espana?

Would they go after De Gea?

He faces less serious chances than any keeper on planet Earth. What a pussy.

A gk feels more pressure when the other team has less chances. Sounds weird unless you've experienced it.

I was wondering when someone would throw some common sense out there.

I call bullshite on that. 70% possession by his own team almost every match. He is a mentally weak keeper. Buy Tim Howard for fricks sake.

You put him on a midtable side, and watch him go to town.

You get cold and mentally distracted, keeping for a side like his. Add in that he´s easily mentally distracted, and you´ve got a recipe for disaster which vacillates from latent to patent, in a flash.

He is capable of both the best and worst.

Exactly why De Gea would make a perfect replacement.

If you watch La Liga (which this board does not), Valdes consistently makes some spectacular saves.

I'm sure his shot-to-save percentage is pretty outstanding. He makes way too many mental lapses in big games to be considered elite, but he's a superb keeper nonetheless.

Arsenal fans should remember his fantastic performance in Paris in 2006.

Simply promoting Pinto to the #1 shirt would be a disaster. That guy is nuts.

Well, I played a year of GK in high school, and I can say that for me it was true. We played against a superior Beau Chene team in the playoffs, they peppered the goal, and I had 14 saves. We won the game 2-1. We played a team we were better than the next round, and the only shot the had on goal was the winner in a 1-0 game. That's only 2 examples, but I feel like it's a pretty legit point. I'd rather have to make saves her and there, than be cold and have to come up with one big one.

I do. He lets routine goals in that are troublesome.

Yeah, from all the matches I've watched it's clear that he makes a lot of highlight reel saves but has more absolute head scratching moments in a month than actual top GKs like Iker or Buffon have had in the careers.

He's similar to Doni: elite, "jungle cat" reflexes, as Ray Hudson would say, but a very average reader of the game.

Barca should hurry up and make Roma an offer for Stekelenburg.
