Also, have you tried Rock Hill Farms? It's made by Buffalo Trace from the same mash as Blanton's but likely a little older and stronger. Great stuff!
Never heard of it.. Same price range as Blantons?

I happened to come into a bottle of this recently: Willett. Looked it up and read some good things. Haven't cracked it open yet. What's the story?

Sure is. Usually about the same price or maybe $5 more or so.

I finally ran into a bottle of Rock Hill Farms with my name on it at Whole Foods (BR) the other day. Had passed it up when I saw it at Calandros in favor of Black Maple Hill. Also picked up a bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel, but haven't opened it yet. I went on my own version of the Bourbon Trail at The Cove last year with a buddy of mine. We would each pick one of the higher end offering and taste the other's. That was an expensive night, but helped me pick which bottles to buy first. Dr., since I have made considerable use of your reviews on here in the past for my purchases, what are your thoughts on the Old Van Winkle 12? It seems more likely I'll find this than the PVW this year.

Haven't tried the Rock Hill. That might be my Christmas gift to myself. The PVW doesn't count been waiting on my refill for that for 6 months

Blantons is the only correct answer.

I usually buy a bottle of Bookers for CHRISTmas but this year bought a bottle of Knob Creek Black Label. Was very satisfied with the taste, the effects and the price. I think it was $36 at Super 1 foods. Highly recommended over the over-the-top other bourbons, except Bookers of course. You can thank me later....

Unfortunately, I've only had the 12 year once and that was before I really got into tasting and such. I remember it being a good enough whiskey but really couldn't tell you much more about it personally. From others I've compared notes with, I've generally heard that it's not worth the money. People still tend to pay $60+ dollars for it since it has the PVW pedigree, but I've been told that you can find much better values at that range. Seems that the wheated mashbill they use really doesn't get extraordinary until it hits the 15 year mark. With that said, it likely will still be a good enough experiment to try if you can find it at the right price and have the extra finances.

I have it, I'd describe it as the white wine of bourbons. Very light and not very intensely flavored. Okay, but if your a bourbon enthusiast it doesnt really measure up to the great ones. I dont think it merits the price tag it carries.

Yikes. What do you mix with that still allows you to taste all the things that make it good? Ahhh....you meant water. Ok. shite I hope so.
