West Monroe played Evangel at Independence Stadium in a regular season game in 2001. There were 34,000 at that game. My last game in the Dome had 40K. Louisiana has some teams with big fan numbers.

i get the impression that schools that splash on facilities like that are doing great academically, (they tend to be located in richer areas to begin with though)

The big suburban schools with huge enrollments, I'd be curious how many people that go to games are just fans and not parents/relatives.

I knew a few people like this when I was there. One dude's cubicle was all about Garland HS. It was kind of sad. I asked him if his kid was there and he said, "no".

And of course the biggest difference is Texas schools are independent districts, so they dont rely nearly as much on the state for support. So there is more buy in from the people of the communities because it is in a sense their money and their pride in those schools.

I don't know much about Allen's team this year but they have been very good in the past. A&M has had several players from there, Jonathan Williams is a freshman RB at Arkansas this year and I'm sure I'm forgetting several guys.

Their QB is going to be a freshman at Alabama.

Here is a list of just D1 signees that they lost.

quote:

Alec Morris, QB, Alabama
Jonathan Williams, RB, Arkansas
Abe Abdelkarim, OL, Nevada
Cortland Tolbert, WR, Air Force
Andrew Rodriguez, WR, Houston
Thaddeus LaGrone, LB, Houston
Anthony Adams, WR, Arkansas Tech

They also had around 10 kids sign to smaller colleges and JC. They lost pretty much everyone. I heard after the Southlake game was announced that the Allen folks already have admitted defeat.

I think Mox can lead them to State this year!

But yeah, $60 million is a bit excessive.

I forgot about Alec Morris as well. Southlake is pretty stacked this year, correct?

For the most part. They lost Sabian Holmes (A&M) and Peyton Williams (CU) both WRs. Also lost LB Will Davis (KSU) and an O-lineman to Purdue and more kids on defense.

Their run game is going to be insanely good, which will be weird to see from Southlake.

Yeah, come to think of it, I've run into folks here in the metro Atlanta area who spend Friday evenings at high school games, and they have no affiliation to the schools other than geography.

I mean, they have games on TV for a reason.

To each his own...

Allen is on the low-end of the Suburbs as well. Here is Southlake.
quote:

According to a 2011 estimate, the median income for a household in the city was in excess of $180,000, and the median income for a family was $176,259.

And even Southlake is dwarfed by towns like Highland Park.
