No way in hell Direct TV loses Viacom, one or the other will fold. They NEED each other.

I'd still prefer DirectTV over Dish. The deal will get worked out with Viacom, but Dish is always going to be inferior.

I'm lucky since I never watch those channels (I used to earlier in life.) Good reason to call in and get $ off your bill though.

Now if they ever dropped AMC. You won't be seeing my # because I would fricking lose it.

Dropped cable over a year ago

The only channel I miss is TCM

I can watch football online or at a bar/someone's house

I can watch documentaries or movies on YouTube (probably have over a thousand videos there bookmarked)

I wonder what recourse you have if you're in a 2 year commitment with Directv. Wouldn't this be a breach of service on their part, allowing you to exit the contract without penalty? As has been said, some households with kids spend more time on Nickelodeon than any other channel.

if I start missing out on Workaholics, I am gonna be pissed. thats the only show I really care about though.

I wish DTV would have a dispute with Bravo though

ive said it for months now. i work in the programming side of the TV business and this is just the beginning. rate are getting out of hand and pay TV providers are starting to not put up with it anymore.

it they pay the demands of the networks then it will just mean a higher bill for you. the average customers bill is over $90 and is it has to stop somewhere.

Dish is much cheaper than DirecTV because they dont put up with it and drop the channel and then the channel comes back crying with a lower rate. the downside with that is that you might lose that channel for days or weeks. DirecTV always pays the price and thats why they are on average $12-$15 more a month than Dish.

I honestly dont get the love affair with DirecTV. yes they have the sunday ticket but Dish has much better equipment. The Hopper blows away anything Direct has.

oh yeah and 1 more thing, my peeps in the biz are telling me that armageddon is coming in regards to ESPN.

Apparently ESPNs contract runs out this year with all the big boys, Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish, etc.

Apparently they are asking for the world, something like a 10x increase in its contract. they are claiming that since they now have monday night football, college football at its peak, and now World Cup that they can get whatever they want.

lots of speculation on what will happen. many think that its going to force a major company like Dish or Direct to make ESPN a seperate package to pay those fees. it would be an add on for around $10 a month for the ESPN channels. that way the people that dont watch sports wont be affected by the huge increase.

this will heat up big time in the fall but i can see this hitting the fan.

I wouldn't say blow away. DTV HR34's 5 tuners > Hopper's 3 tuners.

ESPN is the worst of the bunch when it comes to charging the providers. frick them. People need to realize that it's not the providers fault (DirecTV, Dish, Cable) and that all this comes from the networks raising their rates. You want to bitch to someone? Bitch to them.

im telling you man, people always blame the provider and its a shame. i dont understand why customers dont care that the programmers can just charge whatever they want.

imagine running a business and one of your main products triples their cost to you and you tell them to F off. same thing, customers blame you because you wont carry the product anymore but if you agreed to the charges and tripled the cost to the customer they will bitch as well so its a no win.

somebody needs to put their foot down. ESPN is the worst from what ive heard.

yes i know but the Hopper has a much better interface, fastest processor on the market and a 2 TB hard drive. Plus it records 6 shows at once every night from 7-10pm. my buddy has a 34 reciever and he doesnt have full functionality on the shows in every room. with my hopper i can pause, rewind, FF, record, etc from any room and resume in any room. its pretty bad arse. look it up on CNET and PCmag, both have said its by far the best DVR on the market.

also my buddies who work for Dish said that the Hopper 2 comes out this fall and it will have 6 tuners with a built in slingbox and wireless client recievers to the other tuners that are the size of a dollar.
