I wish DTV would have a dispute with Bravo though

1) Why?

2) You realize that Bravo is part of NBC, right?

im telling you man, people always blame the provider and its a shame. i dont understand why customers dont care that the programmers can just charge whatever they want.

It goes deeper than that. In recent years, people have decided not to blame the root cause of the problem, for some reason.

But that's for a different board that I don't like going to.

I understand you not wanting to go to that board, but what's the political issue you think is the root cause? Is it that the providers are basically protected monopolies? I think this board is fine for discussing those types of issues. ETA: entertainment related of course

This happened before with AMC and FX on directv, and it got worked out. Dish had the same problem.

I'm starting to think that it's not the service provider who is at fault, but the networks.

I wouldn't mind all of them (comcast, dish, dtv, cox etc) pulling the plug on espn right now to keep the rate down.

I'll be pissed if it's a separate charge. I pretty much watch sports, Amc, HGTV, and reality shows.

The problems is not with service providers. If the service providers would give in to the networks your tv bill would go up every year to cover the costs of new contracts with networks.

The largest part of your TV service bill is to pay for ESPN networks FWIW. That's why a la carte service hasn't taken off.

uhhh you don't think cable providers battle with the service providers? Cox and ESPN had a pretty lengthy standoff just a little while ago

This is freaking gay. I just signed up for direct tv a week ago. Now I'm losing channels that come with the package I decided to pay for. This crap pisses me off. I don't care if it was a station that all it did was play reruns of Hanna Montana. Having that station on the package made it cost a certain rate. Now I'm paying more for less.

If it's not installed, you're not a customer yet.

Also, if you have installed call in and tell them that. They will lower the bill. Not saying it doesn't suck, but you'll pay less.

Also, get a # off of here, call in and say "I was referred by another customer (send them an email to get their name and dtv account number) and I'm not seeing it on my bill." They don't know you didn't use a number.

That's what I did for MThawg after he had been a customer for a month and he's getting the discount now. Call in the number after you complain about losing the channels.

Wait for a month to do that if you're a customer. It shows up on the first bill so you need to wait a few weeks.

I recommend this for anyone that's only been a customer for a month or two that didn't use a number originally.

I've heard this for a while as well. It's inevitable. They are paying out of their a-hole for all those CFB contracts (still making money, I'm not sympathizing with them) and they are trying to recup a lot of that when these contracts run out.

I've had a deep seeded hatred for ESPN/Disney for a while now. If they don't calm their fricking shite, I see a huge fiasco fast approaching.

As for the DTV issues. I have them, and will be thoroughly pissed off if I lose programming for even one second tonight. I have a contract running out soon, so I need to look at other options.

I get it's not DTV's issue (entirely), but I can't call up Viacom to have them take money off my bill, so DTV takes the blows.

oh yeah and 1 more thing, my peeps in the biz are telling me that armageddon is coming in regards to ESPN.

Apparently ESPNs contract runs out this year with all the big boys, Time Warner, DirecTV, Dish, etc.

Apparently they are asking for the world, something like a 10x increase in its contract. they are claiming that since they now have monday night football, college football at its peak, and now World Cup that they can get whatever they want.

lots of speculation on what will happen. many think that its going to force a major company like Dish or Direct to make ESPN a seperate package to pay those fees. it would be an add on for around $10 a month for the ESPN channels. that way the people that dont watch sports wont be affected by the huge increase.

this will heat up big time in the fall but i can see this hitting the fan.

If that happens, then ESPN can go F themselves.
