re: So what would be the rules/guidelines of a Religion & Philosophy Board?

quote:

On the contrary, there are posters who point out that you are going to hell for being against their dogma. That should result in bannage, IMO.

Otto, I've always seen you as a really strange bird, but a dude that takes whatever criticism people dish out and just let's it roll of the back, and goes on to the next thread of interest. Real question, why would you want someone banned for talking about going to hell, when that's one of the principles of the many faiths, including Christianity?

I mean, of all the things that would get your goat, I would think that would be the last on your list. Bannage for someone pointing out their belief, no matter how misguided you feel it is? Come on, man. Rethink that. I don't believe you thought that statement through.

No matter what happens, thanks for the 200+ posts in the bible. You know something is probably the truth when it stirs up so much reaction. No one is forced to click on any thread at any time as far as I know.

Proverbs 19:21 NKJV - There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless the LORD's counsel--that will stand.

Late to the party, but this:

quote:

You are one of the reasons that religion was taken of the Poli board with your complaining about religious help board threads. Gmorgan is trying to paint Christians as the ones who wanted the threads gone. I haven't seen myself or many other Christians starting help board threads complaining about religious threads like Otto. I think gmorgan's criticism is off base.

Also, I will be a huge supporter of a religious discussion board though. I just thought that our discussions on the political talk board went pretty well. I didn't see too much flaming from either side and thought there was great civil discussion. Not sure why a few bad apples that didn't contribute to the threads are trying to ruin a good thing.

I'm going out on a limb and say that it wasn't the atheists who complained about the "Is Jesus Gay?" thread.

What's your theory then as to who complained?

The admins won't give us any details.

I just assumed that certain people on the OT were RA'ing just about every overtly religious thread that popped up on their radar.

Personally, I never thought religion belonged on the OT.

In a former life (no I'm not an alter, I started a new account and abandoned the old one), I pointed this out to TulaneLSU:

quote:

The OT is teased with the caption "Abandon all hope, all ye who enter here".

So imagine my surprise when I enter the OT to find a Bible study group.

Den of iniquity seems far more congruent with the purpose of the OT.

Maybe you should get the admins to create a Religion Board.

LINK

And here we are. No Religion Board (yet) but we have killed off all discussion of religion on the OT.

Christians complained because "My Jesus ain't gay!" and the admins are Christians and think, "My Jesus ain't gay!" and they saw a lot of complaints and were sympathetic to them and figured they had to take action so off the board the topic of religion goes.

It makes sense that religious topics should go on the Poli Board but since the admins won't admit a mistake we're either getting no more religious topics or we're getting a whole new board.

Personally, I never thought religion belonged on the OT.
We agree on that.

Well, never say never but you're probably right.

Side note: I'm a Christian and I'm 1000% sure that Jesus isn't gay but I don't think I'm going to hell for posting that article. There are 1000 better reasons why I could very well be going to hell.

And if someone really believes Jesus is gay, I'd just chuckle and let them go on their way. They are free to believe as they will.

How might one go about altering said state to one that is in favor of opening up the Religion and Philosophy Board?

It would probably help if y'all would come up with some well formulated and laid out rules/guidelines for Chicken to use like the OP requests. (i.e. make his job a little easier)

Just my $0.02

ETA: But what the frick do I know.

I saw those, some of that post seemed only semi serious so that's how I read it.

Some good ideas in those rules that may need to be ironed out and supported.

again my worthless opinion.

I'm thinking Chicken is waiting to see if this thread reaches 200. That'll be his signal that enough people care about the new board.

I have a friend who is eagerly awaiting the creation of the board fwiw.
