you can't "shoot from the hip" and be successful without a ton of practice at "shooting from the hip." therefore you have "the process" and, with Miles, a whole lot more. by the way, none of this "process" shite is worth a damn if you don't have highly skilled athletes who have the discipline to first learn and then....execute.

I think Miles has finally surrounded himself with good assistant coaches. He's always been an excellent recruiter, but now the kids are being coached.

I too was highly critical of Miles in the past, but will admit he's built an incredible cohesive team this year that may be one of the best of all times. Can't wait for the game tomorrow.

I began to lose faith after the Oregon St. game. After the Georgia and Ole Miss debacles, I was praying some NFL team was stupid enough to hire him. That was the best Christmas present ever. Not even the Iowa abortion could bring me down.

I just wanted to say this before the game. This program has been on the upswing since December 25, 2004.

There's nothing revolutionary or even unusual about "the process." It's just a word Saban likes to use almost as much as the phrase "relative to." Most coaches approach coaching a team the same way. Though Saban is a very good defensive coach, his greatest strength is recruiting. He's not the kind of guy who will beat you with less talent.

I am definitely a shoot from the hip kind of guy, just didn't feel Miles was hitting many targets with the Co-DC;s and Crowton, and some questionable game decisions. He has made up for that however and again, shoot from the hip is chic.

So now you want to get on the LSU/Miles bandwagon?

Additionally, I think all of this talk about Saban's process overshadows (or neglects) the fact that a number of former LSU players (from Saban's last few years at LSU) genuinely disliked Saban and playing for him.

Eh. Seems like the complaints on here have been from former players rooting for Saban over LSU. Seems barbelled - some players that really love and really hate.

Bandwagon? No. I'll continue to objectively analyze what is put before me.

You mean that you will try to objectively analyze what is put before you.

I think you have a "process" anchor.

FTR - Les had an albatross in Ryan Perrilloux. If RP has not fricked up and gotten himself booted from the team, LSU would have had much better seasons in 2008 and 2009.

ETA - Les's luck with o-line recruits also got a lot better as time went on. The o-line is getting better and deeper with each year.

Saban has had his own share of brainfarts. Playing Booty over Davey in the LR game or the Peach Bowl. No excuse for this and it was deliberate and not spur of the moment.

The Iowa debacle is all on Saban no matter how hard he tried to throw the players under the bus as he was headed to Miami. Truth.

Not going for the throat against a Matt Jones team in LR will always hurt me the worst. The Miracle on Markham will always eat at me. Miles would have gone for the touchdown and not settled for the field goal. I am certain of it.

He has that covered. I heard he got Flavor Flav a sideline pass.

He had many more snafus but fortunately for him, expectations were much lower and there was really no basis to measure him against. A disaster in Saban's time constitutes an end of the world catastrophe in Miles' tenure.

Nothing gets done without a process. If you drive to work, then you first, learn how to drive a car. If you cook a steak on the grill, you go through a process. The steak doesn't cook itself. you begin with steps and you follow those steps. If you forget to light the grill, you will be waiting for a long time for the steak to be cooked. In fact, it won't cook itself even if you do light the grill.

I agree with an earlier poster who claimed Saban uses the "process" to basically say that if we lose, it is o.k..because we have a magical process that we are following ergo everyone needs to chill the f&ck out. If he wins a championship, he touts the "process". Any good student knows that studying for exams require a process of attending class, taking notes, and memorizing material. Nothing special here.

In the end, the process is just BS for following Saban's arse chewing antics.

I was also once a Miles hater. I am going to be honest about that as well. However, he has really grown on me and I love his quirks and crazy trick plays. I know, no matter what happens, I do NOT want any other coach but Miles. Geux Les!!!!!! Fear the Hat!
