How's that any different than saying, "if a coach puts his hands on my (adult) son, he's gonna have me to deal with?"
Correct and the reason the coach is having to put his hands on that adult son is bc somebody did a shitty job teaching him how to handle failure on the field. Likely made excuses for him and blamed everybody else.

America is done. Nobody is responsible for themselves and can take no discipline. Pussy parents, galore.

Because in a hypothetical situation where you are at a bar or somewhere else in public with anyone you care about and another adult puts his hands on them, you'd probably step in, right?

Two totally different environments. I'll just agree to disagree on this one.

jack martinez is about to be 21 years old, he is not a kid
Martinez was publicly yelling at his pitching coach while he came off the field, you dont do that and expect to get away with it
he continued to yell at the pitching coach, Gunnar Leger in the dugout
leger confronted him and grabbed the jersey on his chest/shoulder
martinez was yelling “I have four pitches” right in Leger’s face
the bench coach Seth Thibodeaux (former Nichols State HC) comes over and separates Leger from the situation and escalates the shouting with Martinez. If anybody looked like they were going to throw some hands, it was Thobodeaux. He was irate.
HC Deggs then separates Thibodeaux and sends Martinez to the clubhouse
The mistakes made were Martinez should not be yelling at his coaches like that in public and showing them up
Leger should have directed him to the clubhouse for the confrontation and not on the steps in public
Deggs should have intervened sooner and controlled the situation by sending Martinez into the clubhouse coming off the field

Matt Antonelli did a breakdown of this and said point blank that this happens all the time. The difference is it almost always happens in the hallway or in the clubhouse out of view.
He talked what happened, why it happened and why it was avoidable
he makes a great point about a PC calling the right pitch but the pitcher is uncomfortable throwing it vs the PC calling the wrong pitch but the pitcher throws it with conviction
Martinez was dominant in D3 last year but he has moved up in the world and he is learning some hard lessons. His behavior and the way the Cajuns Coaches reacted indicates Martinez has an ego and a big mouth and isnt handling D1 level coaching very well.
the PC he was yelling at was a two All American Pitcher at ULL, not a good idea for Martinez to show him up

Yeah, that's because he's a jackass.

When Thibodeaux got involved Deggs immediately stepped in
Deggs knew what was coming, it was about to go from bad to catastrophe when Thibodeaux stepped in front of Leger

Think pitcher came off field bitching about the pitch calls and one of the coaches was grabbing at his neck. Threw him out the dugout
Somebody let me know when the Jomboy breakdown gets posted

And you have to wonder how much all of this episode played into what transpired last night, when they left him in to walk the bases loaded and essentially cost them the victory.
Is lesson learned or does he fade off into obscurity? Was the loss worth any gain in regard to Martinez’ future contributions?
Personally, I never could have left him in to do that kind of damage after that episode

Agreed. Reading the comments, you'd swear he choked the kid. Grabbing a kid by his jersey is whole lot of nothing.

I know a certain 5’5”, Hall of Fame high school basketball coach who used to light into us worse than that on a regular ole Tuesday.
This is my first get off my lawn moment with those people who have a problem with what Leger did.

i dont know anything about Martinez, but the way they reacted it seems like his attitude has been a problem
Leger didnt come over and do the "hey man, relax, keep your emotions in check and lets talk about it" teaching moment routine. It was more of a "hey man, frick you, I have had about enough of your shite" reaction.
With all of the transfers, this will become more and more of a thing. Big fish in a small pond guys that excel in one environment moving into a big pond and getting an ego check by reality.
I have a buddy whose son played at a well known small school and he was a two time All Conference, two time ABCA All Region, etc level player. He graduated and transferred to a very prominent program for a fifth year and he has yet to play in a game.
His attitude is great and he is just enjoying the experience. If his attitude was bad and his ego bruised that is the kind of situation that can go south on a player very quickly.

he was pretty strong for a smaller guy, especially when he was mad.
Tough to hold him back, he was slippery
there is a never ending supply of stupid people on this this site and in this world

Has anyone actually considered that maybe the player was right and that the coach was calling a crappy game? Beaseball is the only sport where for some reason the coaches rarely get criticized for bad coaching. In football, play callers are criticized live immediately after the play, in hoops, coaches are criticized all the time for bad lineups or poor timeout usage. But in baseball, the coach who calls the game IS NEVER even talked about while the pitcher is always hung out to dry. All I see is a player so frustrated because he is being forced to be the face of play calls that he believes aren’t good. If he would stood on the mound and shook off signs we all know the ego driven baseball coach would have lost his mind because baseball coaches always know best.
