Time and place for sure.

Coach can’t grab a player like that because his player lost control. 30 years ago maybe, but not today. Other than that it’s a no issue.

Same. Ours had a fascination with grabbing our face masks and twisting and jerking it in every directions imaginable.
Never once did a kid or parent say a word. Why not, one may ask? Because more than likely one of us knuckleheads did something wrong or did not do what we were supposed to.

Crazy thing is myself and my teammates would do it all over again (play football) in a heartbeat.

You sound like the type of parent who got Bobby Knight fired from Indiana and Mike Leach fired from Texas Tech.
First of all, there's a HUUUUUUGE difference between Knight's antics and Leach's.

Second, you can make your point without physically attacking one of your own players, which not only did the pitching coach commit, but also the head coach as well.

Both should be fired immediately. But after seeing what Tennessee's POS coach has gotten away with, I don't see that happening.

Sounds like you have one helluva inferiority complex. You'll fit in nicely with TD.

Oh, and seek help.

Don’t be such a drama queen. The only discipline that should happen, if any, is what the head coach thinks is appropriate for the player and his assistant. Should all stay in the dugout without a bunch of Nancy types getting involved.

Baseball coaches are the biggest snowflakes in sports. That kid called him out, like we all do after every play in football, and that coaches reaction is to get physical? It’s because baseball coaches believe they are god on “their” field when in reality they are just a bunch of former players who couldn’t cut it 9n the field and realized they too late in life they are basically gym teachers.

I’ve dealt with coaches in every sport over my life and baseball coaches are, by far, the most ego driven. I’m glad to see a player nut up and call him out. Football coaches take responsibility all the time but when was the last time you heard a baseball coach say they called a garbage game and made their pitcher look bad? NEVER.

We'll have to agree to disagree. Thinking it's perfectly appropriate to physically attack a subordinate, IMO, defines "drama queen."
I get so tired of those on this board who think violence makes you a man. Maybe it makes you a "baw" but it certainly doesn't make you a man.

Full disclosure: I was once told by my coach that I had to get a haircut or leave the team. I told him to frick off. No punches thrown. Nobody grabbed anybody. I simply told him where to shove his haircut.

His punishment? He sent me down to play with the JV team. One game later, I got my hair cut.

He made his point.

1- Gunner Leger definitely could cut it when he played. Was All American.

2- He grabbed the player’s (who is also an adult) jersey.

And I’m not even saying the player is all at fault and Gunner none. They both could have behaved better, but again, shite happens.

So you were a minor. Jack Martinez is not a minor, and he simply got his jersey grabbed. Neither should have acted out the way they did, but to call for two coaches to be fired over it is completely stupid overreaction.

All that needs to happen is they work it out to Deggs’s satisfaction, then hopefully Jack goes on to have a great season for us.

That pitcher was the Friday night starter for the 1st 2 series of the year, and he came out of the pen yesterday which, I'm sure added a little to his attitude of the situation.

I was at the game and noticed he and Gunner having a long conversation during warmups. I would love to know what was discussed.

You seem, like the University of Tennessee, to forget that the coach works for the university, a place of higher learning. Is this appropriate behavior for someone who works at any university?

Is this the type of education ULL (or Tennessee) wants to advertise?

Would it be different if this type of exchange happened in a classroom? Whether you want to accept it or not, the school's athletic fields are (or certainly should be) an extension of that university's classroom and curriculum.

The overreaction was clearly committed by the two coaches, who are paid by the university to know better.

If that would have happened in LSU's dugout, the coach and player would have started aggressively making out.

Gameday bitches.

That’s not grabbing him by the throat and throwing him out of the dugout. He grabbed his shirt collar and told him to go cool off or whatever

Apparently they’ve never had a football coach grab your facemask and yank you toward them while screaming in your face

The coaches and player were heated for sure, but both coach and player will be back in the dugout tomorrow, and that pitcher will be pitching again next Friday.

Wow, anyone who thinks that the coach or player should suffer any consequences is a gigantic pussy. Heat of the moment, grabbed his jersey under his neck for about two seconds. Nothing burger.

A few years after I went through, my manager got fired for landing a punch on one of his players. Senior pitcher who had been drinking the night before, last weekend series of the year/his career, and they went at it during the game inside the dugout.

The fight was 100% on the pitcher, but they ended up firing our manager and all the assistants after the series.

Regardless of who was at fault, there is a very good chance the manager will be held to a higher standard. Hopefully everything was airtight w coach and program before the incident, as some prior goodwill can go a long way here.

Did not happen he grabbed his shirt/jersey

Threw him out the dugout

Not sure if his inning was over or not but possible

The thing that strikes me is that it wasn't just the pitching coach, it was multiple coaches. So there must have been some magic words or previous acrimony.
