Can’t be undersold. Being a dick to your voter base has consequences. Probably spent the last 20 years not caring. Now he does?

Trout’s made 11 All Star Games Belle made 5. Not really a close comparison

So your best support is a completely subjective measure?

And it’s funny how logically flawed so many are in this thread. This isn’t about which one is better, it’s about whether or not you believe Trout is a first ballot, and comparing his career to Belles to determine if he should be in at all.

Belle has a great point based on his gross batting stats.

He ain't wrong. But he was such an a-hole and standoffish w/the media and that is the reason why he ain't already in Cooperstown. Baseball writers are the biggest bunch of pencil-necked, sanctimonious pricks in sports media.

This. Albert Belle should be in the HOF.

which is well and good

you ust described a good player. one that belongs in the hall of good. which is good! the overwhelming majority of players do not reach that level. that is not mean to be a slight against him

its just not the hall of fame. players like mike trout belong there

Y’know to get an RBI is dependent on the guy in front of you getting on base. In Trout’s case nobody cared about the batter in front or behind him, so he also saw a lot of walks in the 2010s.

Kenny Lofton was the only one of his teammates that was in the top 20 in runs scored for the decade, and he had less runs scored than Belle. Your argument doesn’t invalidate what Belle did. Hall of Famer.

Also… Poor Mike Trout, never surrounded by talent in his excellent career. (Sarcasm).

Steeler it’s not just the writers. Belle has no goodwill with anybody who can help him here. Not even his former teammates. He refused to show up when he was inducted into the Indians Hall of Fame. Then there are the off the field incidents after his career. The guy was definitely a stupendous talent although he had a relatively short peak. But he made the bed he’s in now all on his own.

No, it's more I'm tired of fricking math ("analytics") deciding who is better/best versus what my own lying eyes are telling me.

WAR favors people who walk a lot and it also favors center fielders over corner outfielders because it operates on the assumption that up the middle players … catcher, shortstop, second baseman, center fielder … are more valuable than corner players.

The latter is my problem with the metric although I think it’s a valid metric. The thing is, it measures value not “who’s better,” and I don’t think the two are necessarily synonymous, but baseball fans can’t avoid discussing who’s better, it’s in their DNA.

Like I just said, WAR prioritizes up the middle players over corner players and it takes into consideration more than just offense. And it’s silly to try to infer that Reese wasn’t a pretty damn valuable player or isn’t rightfully in Cooperstown, as Miggy will be too when he’s eligible. Reese could be my shortstop any time and would help me beat people.

Again WAR measures value, not greatness or who’s better.

Im fine saying Trout is a HOFer, but it's often said he's the best player if his generation. I can't say that about a guy who regularly takes off each Summer with various injuries. The guy doesn't care about winning.

What puzzles me the most is that he could have went to any team but chose to stay with the angels…..
