If I still had a vote … and I am probably the only person posting in this thread who has actually cast a Hall of Fame vote … I’d have probably voted for Belle when he was on the ballot. He’s at the mercy of the various committees right now which means there is zero chance of him ever getting in.

I just think it’s silly to blame the writers or the stat geeks or any other nefarious external forces for his absence.

Albert Belle is 100% responsible for his predicament.

As far as Trout … the guy hasn’t displayed Hall of Fame chops in going on five years now. IMO if he doesn’t recapture some of that, if he has a long, average closing kick to his career, he might get in at the end of the day but he isn’t going to be the practically unanimous pick that folks are expecting.

And I wonder how really driven the guy is at this point. He needs to get out of Anaheim and to a team where his teammates will kick him in the arse a little, and he needs to show that by God he wants a ring, not just the stats.

For sure, but I doubt he thought the organization would be this inept at developing young players. It's not like they didn't try and help him win they signed Shohei and Rendon was thought to be a difference maker but can't stay healthy. They just missed on that one and the organization seems to have some rot in regards to talent dev, scouting, and drafting.

Yea he's from Jersey, but you just can't say no to that deal at his age at the time all things considered.

I’ve been an Angels fan for more than 50 years but that team will probably be Pacific Coast League quality this year. It’s a dumpster fire of a franchise right now.

The HOF is just a group of writers from certain cities that promote players that played in their city. Some cities have more writers and thus have more collective influence than other cities. Philly and St. Louis are 2 cities that are overrepresented.

But he was such an a-hole and standoffish w/the media and that is the reason why he ain't already in Cooperstown.

Baseball writers are the biggest bunch of pencil-necked, sanctimonious pricks in sports media.

Only reason he wasn't MVP over Mo Vaughn

his peak is over 5 wins short against the average HOF left fielder. not really close

So the only way to get into the HOF is to be better than the AVERAGE hall of famer? that means half the hall of fame doesn't meet your criteria.

How does he compare to the worst hall of famer? or maybe the bottom 25 percent of hall of famers?

Over the past 5 years, Trout has the highest OPS in baseball amongst qualified hitters. He has definitely dealt with some injuries, but still awesome when healthy. He is going to cruise into the Hall of Fame.

This. Young and dumb, think they are God’s gift to the world. Then they mature and become better people. Now he’s sitting around with regret and bitterness.

Please explain. Also below is by far my favorite Belle moment. Dude gets hit by a high inside fastball and his response to the pitcher and catcher and umpire was he wasn’t going anywhere and to throw the ball over the plate.

Where did I “infer” Reese isn't a HOF’er?

I was clear in what said. WAR says Reese is better than Cabrera. Do you agree or disagree? And is it even close in the first place?

WAR again doesn’t say who is “better.” You are framing it wrongly.
