When I played 2nd base at Nola city park in the 70s I would use the base to put my beer on so not to get dirt on the bottom of the can. When guys started showing up with Gatorade and setting practice days that was the end for me.

The only non competitive game I have played was where theres a keg on second base, and everyone must stop and drink a beer before proceeding to third.

I filled in with 15 minutes notice as an emergency player for a coworkers team last spring and had no idea what I had just signed up for.
Was fun for one game, but yeah it is serious business to these guys.

Let me preface this by saying I played for several years and was terrible. I moved on to distance running for my competitive itch.
That said... they are just as "psycho" as any other sport that I've been a part of as an adult. Everyone is just offender because fat dudes can be good at it.
The randoms that show up for softball, bowling, running, triathlon always say this about the ones who do it competitively.

I don't think that's it; nobody acts the fool at lifting competitions. Well, except for the smelling salt using crew from time to time
The softball psychos are the same ones I stay away from at my kid's games. Waay too invested for something that doesn't pay their mortgage. If I acted like them at the bar pounding beers tonight, I'd be kicked out before the end of the first quarter.

I umpire adult softball. We are working on weeding out the bad ones. Had an entire team removed last year.

Yes, people on here are acting like its because they're former college players (which they aren't) but the fact is that most college players don't act like that.

Try playing in a mixed gender league where every team has to have a certain number of females.
The teams full of butch lesbians are either angry and spiteful or they are extremely fun. No in between.
