1986 would not have made the tournament in today’s NCAA. They had zero quality wins and had a .500 record.
They started out 14-0 and went 10-10 in conference. Beat nobody in the preconf schedule. Lost in round 2 of the SEC tournament
They lost to UK 3 times that year..
Sound familiar????
You don’t know what this team will do in the tournament.
Go back and look at all of the posts with the wins and record from ‘86 and get back to me about how tRant would have reacted to that colossal failure of a regular season.

You are either retarded or intentionally obtuse.
Dale would have never gotten to his final 4's (which I enjoyed IMMENSELY as a young tigah) if he was being held to your standard.
Let's see if Will has made a final 4 by year nine like Dale did. I have a good feeling he will if he's here that long.

Dale was a controversial coach. People criticized him for failing to deliver with the great talent he had. Then when the talent left he was roundly criticized for staying on too long. When he finally retired people were very happy. He had taken the program back to where it was when he started.

You guys better pray we find the next Dale Brown, he is LSU basketball.

You don't even know my standard yet you're using it to justify a mediocre coach.
Women...

Maybe someday people will appreciate what John Brady was able to accomplish at LSU?

They won't, cause they'll say Collis Temple delivered Brady's talent.

Dale was a world class recruiter. He got world class talent. But he was not a good enough coach to win national championships with national championship talent. My opinion.
And my comment was directed at the 11 seed team that made it to the semi’s. Great run. The equivalent of a blind hog finding an acorn in my book . Different point of view.

Fact.
Got close though.

Yes he did. No doubt. And like one poster said above, Dale stuck around just a little too long. It happens to a lot of them. And it happened to him.

Yep, after the elite 8 in 1987, we had a strong of one or two and done tourneys with awesome talent, and it went downhill from there. After 92, Dale was done.
There was a 10 year stretch with two elite 8s and two final 4s though. That was the apex of LSU basketball. From 78-81, LSU only had 9 total conference losses.

Great right
Some people want to see everything in either black or white when in reality, there’s a whole lot more gray.
Was he without his failures? Of course not. Might he have done better with the talent he was able to bring to LSU? Of course. Did he lose his passion for what he was doing at the end? I thought so. Does any of that negate the fact that he was able to make LSU basketball a force within the SEC and nationally as it had never been before? Of course not. imo

Yes, and I bitched then also. lol

Although I don't think WW has a clue how to get his players to play solid offensive basketball (defense he is a good coach), until he loses a conference game leading the game by 1 point, with 1 second left on the clock, and LSU has the ball out of bounds....and LSU loses in regulation.....then he will always be superior to Dale Brown as a coach. Not as a recruiter...Dale was one of the best...WW is just slightly above SEC average.

Dale had charisma. Willy Wonka is a potato.

No, at one time under Dale Brown LSU supplanted Kentucky as the best program in the SEC and we became a national power.
His ability to motivate kids was second to none.

Oh shite, Rog shut this fricking thread down with the facts. Those were fun years, but these kids only know the recent past and think this .500 ball is something to behold.

Yeah, the "gansta" thing is what motivates them. People are easily impressed by fake personas.
I don't think Wade is a bad coach. He's just a much better recruiter than bench coach. He needs lots of help.

I was young but I seem to remember Dale getting a lead, stop running offense and spreading out four corners to burn clock. It either cost us or almost cost us the game every time. Anyone else remember this or am I just way off??
