A lot of people think the current coach has had more success.

Its been said in this thread.

That stretch of basketball from the late 70's to about 92 was fun to watch.

I was at the Kentucky game at the Assembly Center in '78, I think that was the best, most exciting LSU sporting event I've ever seen/attended and I was at the 2019 NC game

The most exciting game I have ever seen (tv or in person) was the Loyola Marymount game. Good god that was fun to watch.

It took Brown 7 years to make the Sweet 16.

Wade did it in year 2. He's made the tourney 3 of his 4 chances (no tourney in 2020).

We'll see if the success continues, but Wade has been objectively better thru the 1st 5 years

Unfortunately, his first 5 years were also his last 5 years.

How did he “shut down the thread”? Wade hasn’t even been here 10 years. What did Dales first 5 years look like again?

Thank goodness we can put a fork in the Wade era.

The point is moot now, because Woodward didn't have the balls to stand up to the NCAA, but wtf are you talking about, tard????

You complain about Wade's record, when it blows Brown's first 5 years out of the water, then claim you MAY HAVE supported the shite product Dale put out in his first 5????

Homosexuals....

I think that all depends upon what we’re talking about. If we’re talking in comparison to the basketball heavy weights of the world such as UCLA, Kentucky and duke, I agree with you. If you’re talking about LSU’s basketball history, his success was never seen before in the past 75 yrs and it’s never been seen since his departure. imo

I know he had a couple final fours but his talent was unbelievable. I think he was[/quote]

He had his faults, but your argument is that except for being the best coach we ever had, he sucks. That's what is called a self defeating argument.

Compared to who? typical myopic fan view

I was a student during the CJ/Shaq year and while it was disappointing we lost in the round of 32 in 1990 but that GT team was also stacked (Anderson Oliver Scott) all NBA players 2 of which were Srs vs a Soph and 2 freshman.

Dale Brown had his flaws lord knows there were many games (especially that 89-90 season) I left the PMAC furious but he built the program and made the tournament 14 out 16 or something like that. We would have been lucky if Wade came anywhere close to Brown but now we’ll never know

But Dale was clean and never got in trouble with the ncaa!!!!!

Wrong. If you are to young to remember just do a search for Lester Earl. Also Ron Abernathy was an assistant coach under Brown and got caught with a briefcase full of cash in Mississippi. That was way before Mississippi had gambling so what else would he carry that much cash on him unless he was going to pay a recruit

The win it all or you sick mentality is lazy and stupid.

Also time warps peoples perceptions. CJ/MAF Roberts and Shaq (Shaq also only turned 18 in March that year) only played one year together. Today that happens all the time with elite teams like Kentucky but back then it was rare for someone to go pro as a sophomore like Jackson did most teams were loaded with Jr and Sr. That’s who we were playing UNLV won that year and every came back, when’s the last time that happened? If CJ and Roberts Stu i around 2 more years maybe we would have made the FF?

You say that like it’s easy to do. However, Dale also had a couple of elite eights, a couple of sweet sixteen and a lot (and I mean a LOT) of enthusiasm and excitement for everygame. The Deaf Done was bc of Dale.

Having said all of that, Dale was not a good coach. He was likely dirty, although he could maintain plausible deniability bc he’s not an idiot, he couldn’t develop talent and was famous for screw ups.

All in all, I’d take the Dale years with their excitement and production over the Wade years. But it’s close.

I thought you were gonna talk about all the players he bought. I mean ya..John Williams from L.A. Crenshaw came to Baton Rouge cause Dale Brown was such a great coach…same with Jerry Reynolds…Tito Horford..etc etc..ya right

Woodward is smarter than Will Wade. You don’t “stand up to the NCAA” when they have documented proof your coach was paying players, from his own bank account no less. There was no room for plausible deniability or a questionable paper trail. In this situation, you fire the coach who cheated and got caught red-handed
