I was young but I seem to remember Dale getting a lead, stop running offense and spreading out four corners to burn clock. It either cost us or almost cost us the game every time. Anyone else remember this or am I just way off??

The last few years of his tenure were extremely frustrating.

I remember. I also feel that Coach Wade is not the best coach that LSU can have at this time.

I believe it was Bobby Knight that had a comment about that. LSU was playing Indiana in the tournament and LSU had the lead in the 2nd half. Knight said he called a timeout because he was beginning to worry. Then he said he remembered Dale was the other coach.

How did he “shut down the thread”? Wade hasn’t even been here 10 years. What did Dales first 5 years look like again?

I remember 10 straight tourneys, two final fours, three elite rights (at least) and a host of sweet 16. Funny how you remember only one season against a damn good team with a couple of future NBA players themselves.

Yep, we were a "basketball school" at that time. We also had some amazing non conference games during that time. It was awesome.

Yes.

Funny, the first 5 years of that "decade" are better than we are experiencing now, and you're fine with it.

People who weren't around in the 80's have a romanticized view of Will Wade. We used to kick arse.

Brown got complacent and fell off the championship trail. His departure was warranted.

Dale Brown had 2 Final Fours, 4 Elite Eights, and 5 Sweet 16s in 25 years. So he only won more than one game in the tourney 5 times in 25 years

How about Rudy, Ice, Jordy, Hi-C, The Astronaut, Cookieman, Nakita, Redden, Disco D, Andy Campbell, etc.?

Dale was a recruiter and motivator. He had a few X's and O's coaches, but wasn't one.

Once Wade starts fricking with the program after retirement then he can truly be Dale Jr.

Yea no shite because he has the program running at a consistent level that we haven’t seen in our lifetimes (our being the younger posters) majority of my life it’s been a slug to win more than 6-7 conference games.

I think it’s fine to have different expectations. Wade has met or exceeded mine to start his career. Like we agreed in the other thread next year is the money year and the standard of just making the tournament will not be enough, he needs to make a run or it’ll start to flip on him

True

He could motivate and recruit though. That stretch of basketball from the late 70's to about 92 was fun to watch. Big out of conference games, huge crowds...

NO! I am convinced that most Wade Haters knowledge of LSU athletics, as a whole, are bunch of 20 somethings who have no idea of what has happened in the last 30 years!

Quit complaining and be thankful for what you have.

They remind me of the "Help Mac Pac" bunch of the 70's (and I was one!) who would have taken him back in a second after a few years.

Funny hearing someone that wasn't born yet tell that story. I don't remember lsu's seed but they were in elite 8 and way overachieved. Lost to the eventual national champion by 1 otherwise they go back to back final fours. Comical you shitting on that. I bet you have a trophy room full of participation trophies

So he only one one or more games in the tournament

And for the 25 years before his arrival LSU made postseason play once.

You know how we think about those walk over pre-conference football games we play each year. Well that’s exactly how LSU basketball was viewed by just about everybody in the basketball world prior to his arrival. A game to be put in the win column before the season even started.

He might not have been a great coach, but he sure in the hell earned a lot of respect for LSU basketball

I have no hate for Dale. My point is that tons of people overrate the amount of success he had

It's the same thing.

No matter how much talent you have, the coach will hold that team back from achieving what it's capable of.

Let's not forget this:

Bob Knight, Indiana basketball coach, responding to a story in which Lousiana State Coach Dale Brown took some shots at him, recalled last season’s Midwest Regionals in which LSU led Indiana, 75-66, with only four minutes left.

“It didn’t look good,” Knight said. “In fact, my assistants had just about given up, and so had I. Then I looked down toward the other bench, and I saw Dale Brown standing there. I knew then that we had a chance.”

Indiana won, 77-76.
