When specifically questioned about the crappunt last season on his radio call in show from WalkOn's, Coach Miles reiterated, as he had expressed in his Monday press conference, that the new punt formation was specifically designed for better punt COVERAGE and ALL the best teams were going to it (he even quoted a specific ratio of X out of the top 25 teams in the country). I don't remember the exact number he used, but I vividly remember his excuse when questioned about it.

It was a member of Tigerdroppings who called in to question him about it.

I heard that call as well, and I remember him sayin gthat it was used specifically for protection purposes because our deep snapper does not get the ball back fast enough.

Ellis Johnson interviewing for DC spot at Ga. Tech....

If he hires Mallory for the reasons you state when Tenuta is available(and if he is willing to come), I'm gonna be pissed.

Thank you. I remember that as well. That is also the reasoning he used in several other comments on the formation. And Miles is right, I see numerous teams using every Saturday.

There is no doubt our punt coverage sucks, along with our kick coverage, however I do not blame the punt formation. Rather I think we take poor angles and need to work on tackling.

I take it, if he promotes Mallory, you are not going to participate in the next Miles Walk-A-Thon.

Last week you were on coffee and cigs 24x7 - now you are going to be pissed?

I remember the call myself but i thought he said we did because the deep snapper had trouble blocking out of the old method. All I know is in 2005 we ran the conventional formation and we had top five punt coverage. now we have crap.

I think it would be best to let the fans run the special teams.

I saw an article a while back that basically said that with limits on practice time, you have to choose between offense, defense, & special teams. I think we've done OK on how practice time has been used.

So, as of this evening, the only person you know he's talked to is Tenuta?

but that punt formation did pretty well this year

2 punts returned for TDs is UNACCEPTABLE at LSU

Agree there, but that has nothing to do with the punt protection formation, which is what everyone was all freeked about - ie, a pumt getting blocked.

Either formation still gives you 11 guys moving downfield filling a lane and trying to stop the return.

I think Mallory is perfectly capable but is his name being tossed as a candidate at other programs… no. So obviously others must not think he is ready yet. I think he needs an opportunity but not at LSU, that’s to big a leap. If we believe we are a big time then we should expect a big time DC.

Par, liked your info better yesterday!

here is hoping he goes after Tenuta, the SECw has gotten tougher, IMHO if there a "cream of the crop" type DC available Les needs to go that way, hopefully Mallory would understand...there is a lot at stake with this hire, so far Miles has proven to make good choices...

like I said heres hoping...

Mallory may be great, but Miles needs to hire Tenuta or the like for PR reasons.

This is the scariest thing I've read on how to coach a football team in quite some time.

And, no offense to our wonderful posters, but I think one of the quickest way to put a program in jeopardy would be to take hiring advice from internet posters. Unless some of them have a couple of top five finishes, an SEC title and a berth in the MNC game under their belts, I hope Les relies on his own counsel in this matter.

People would probably be disappointed, even the sunshine pumpers, though they'd never say so.
