Dinardo-esque. LSU is not a training ground. With the competition in the SEC now, better hire the best out there or end up as a commentator on a network.

I think its more of the fact that if he doesn't start promoting "his" guys and keep bringing in new, they will get frustrated and look to go elsewhere.

They need to go elsewhere if they want a promotion. Generally speaking, promotion from within sucks. It's the Peter Principle. People will always get promoted to their personal level of incompetence. I don't want to be running incompetence tests at LSU.

I'm sure Doug's year as DC at Western Kentucky has more than prepared him to be a DC in the SEC

I would be fine with Coach giving Mallory a shot if he is confident in his abilities. NS took a shot on Muschamp a few years back and now many of you would gladly take him OVER Tenuta.

On the other hand I want to trust Coach's judgment in hiring assistants but for Crappunt Peveto to still be employed as a Special Teams Coordinator calls that judgment into question.

Saban took a chance with his offensive coordinator.

Mallory as DC will not go over well, especially since Tenuta's name has been mentioned as a replacement.
Mallory probably needs to be a DC at La Tech, Hawiai or some other mid level school and then he could be considered as a DC for LSU when Tenuta gets hired as a head coach somewhere else.

I hate to say it, but that punt formation did pretty well this year.

And I was one of the more vocal opponents of it last year.

Miles has a damn good record in hiring assistant coaches. Whether or not the next guy comes from within is mute - Miles has proven that is one thing he does extremely well.

Saban didn't take any shot with Muschamp. That was Saban's D.

2 punts returned for TDs is UNACCEPTABLE at LSU

agreed, but they are usually proven coaches before they get here, not unproven. IDK if I'd take the chance if Tenuta is available. If he's not, that's a diffrent story.

why is it that we, as a fanbase, think we are above hiring coaches who might be the next big thing.

Stoops - no HC experience before taking OU job
Richt - no HC experience before taking UGA job
Tomlin - no HC experience before taking Steelers job
McCarthy - no competent OC experience before taking Packers job
Pete Carroll - no college HC experience before taking USC job

Jimbo was considered one of the hottest coordinators at that time. what the hell are you talking about?

what I'm saying is:

It does NOT always work, but I just don't think we should automatically foreclose the possibility. We could be slamming the door on a guy who COULD be 5x the DC that another candidate already is

I agree. Jimbo Fisher: 1 year as OC at Cincinnati. Before that he was only a QB coach.

I don't know if Mallory is qualified or not, and neither does anyone else (especially the idiots on this board) not coaching football for a living. Position coaches are promoted to coordinators every year at all levels (even, gasp, in the NFL). Miles hasn't steered us wrong yet. And the lie that continues to be perpetrated about our "punt ugly" not being affective, is just crazy. I think it's a thing of beauty.

But Saban was a defensive guy. He trained Muschamp on the job.

Miles is not a defensive guy, and can't hold a young DC's hand.

It's certainly not a given that a promoted coach CAN'T be good, it's just that the risk is higher of such a coach sucking. And it's an incredibly stupid thing to do when you're in a position of strength, financially and otherwise.

I also wasn't exactly in love with Bo P's scheme so I'm not sure I want a second hand guy running it anyway
