Former Auburn, Florida and Michigan assistant Scot Loeffler has emerged as a strong candidate to become the new offensive coordinator at Virginia Tech, according to sources and reports that the veteran assistant has interviewed with the Hokies.

The interview took place today in Blacksburg and he was introduced to a number of Hokies assistant coaches.

FUN FACT according to JC Shurburtt

quote:

Sources indicate that a wide variety of coaches from multiple conferences, including the Southeastern Conference, have been in contact with Virginia Tech recommending him for the position. ??Before Alabama head coach Nick Saban hired Jim McElwain as his offensive coordinator prior to the 2008 season, he offered the job to Loeffler.?

Yeah, it was brought up a bit when Auburn hired him. Saban tried something new with Applewhite, didn't like it, and was hunting for a more traditional coach who would run what he told him. He came from Carr, so it looked good on paper. Ended up dodging a bullet that ultimately escalates into a landmine for Auburn years later.

Because they're not shitty. Would be a good hire for VT. Auburn's a strange place sometimes with unique challenges. Sometimes things line up, sometimes they don't.

Loeffler was caught up changing a spread team to a pro style team with spread athletes and a spineless jellyfish for a HC

loeffler will be fine at VTU

We weren't fully adopted with spread type athletes as you might think. The play calling was horrid this past year. The d didn't help either.

This x1000. Our offense was out-coached nearly every game

Wasn't too long ago Aubies were telling everyone how awesome Loeffler was and defending his track record of QB development. Things change quickly.

Kind of like heaping praise and a raise on a HC, and a month later the entire fan base asking for his head after losing to Clemson. Amirite?

Wasn't too long ago that Saints fans were claiming they'd run their division and make the playoffs without their Head Coach. Things change quickly.
