Kevin Mawae would be a good hire. The dude understand technique...it shouldn't be hard for him to coach it.

I am puzzled by the assumption that a good or even great player would automatically have the skill set to be a good or great coach. These skill sets are not the same, there are numerous former players who failed at coaching, despite being immensely talented at playing.

Don't try to apply logic or be rational about this. People think because he went to LSU, was successful as a pro, and is now retired, well then theres' nothing he'd rather do than come back to LSU and coach!!!!! This in spite of the fact that i'm pretty sure the guy has said he wants to spend time with his family, and not take on the work load of recruiting and coaching at a top tier school. But he went to LSU!!!!!! Durrrrrrrrrr.

And then there are some that are really good too. Mawae has a masters degree, was president of the players union, played umpteen years as a pro-bowler, considered a true technician, and very personable guy. Add to the fact that many say he has been in the film room at LSU helping the team break down film and I would say that's a good start. Should he definitely be the guy? No. Should he be considered? Yes.

Good grief, yall are dense and will be the first ones bitching if the line doesn't improve. Leave nothing to chance, bring in a proven guy.

Also think of how bringing someone in with absolutely no experience in would affect recruiting. Other coaches would have a field day recruiting against a first time coach.

That doesn't address the biggest concern with Mawae though, his desire to coach at this level. He's stated before that he doesn't want to make the commitment to be a full time coach because he cherishes his time with his family.

If there are any changes on the offensive side (which I'm 80% sure there will be), then Cam Cameron will have a huge say in who is brought in, especially as O-line coach.

Surely it will fall down this week. The AFCA convention is next week and that is prime time for coaches to get jobs. Les is very classy the way he handles this but there will be changes. Stud may be burning up the phones to get a job and resign rather than be fired.

I wouldn't expect anything to happen until after signing day. Les usually doesn't make moves until then.

The logic is that he's already interned on the Bills staff, spent time working with the Vandy OL, and was rumored to have volunteered in the football building this season at LSU breaking down film after moving back to BR. He wants time with his family first and foremost but this isn't just coming out of left field.

I could see agreements being made and not being announced until after NSD. I think Chavis and Brick were hired weeks before they were officially announced.

It would be completely asinine to bypass a homerun hire of a guy who has skins on the wall for a guy who hasn't coached a down of football. Given what we pay assistant coaches no reason we can't go out and get someone who will be a slam dunk. Mawae can volunteer as much as he wants and help out, but no way do you bring someone in with no experience just because they played at LSU. That's silly.

I wish we'd reach out to Gerry Dinardo. Our OL was dynamic back then, and he had several guys who played in the NFL for 10+ years. A great recruiter too. And, he stood next to Cam in Les Miles' wedding.

Any chance Stud takes his talents and twinkies else where? Einsminger?

Mawae has aid in the past that he doesnt want to coach at the college level die to time with his family.

For OLine coach Id go after Mike Sherman. The guy is a hell of an oline coach and could recruit Texas really well.
For TE coach Id go after Tim Brewster. Hell of a recruiter in TX as well.

1) Kevin Mawae - instant recruiting cred, NFL experience, attitude, already hanging around program, has forgotten more oline technique and skills than Stud will ever grasp.

2) Bob Bostad - coached all those Wisconsin studs and NFL (Bucs) experience, one of the best around.

3) Ben Wilkerson - was asst oline coach during the '11 season, was reason for oline improvement that season, would recruit well.

4) Greg Adkins - NFL (Bills now)/College oline experience, worked w/Chavis at UT, good oline coach

5) James Cregg - good recruiter and oline coach at USC.

6) Hal Hunter - NFL (Chargers/Colts/etc) experience, good oline coach, LSU history, worked with Cameron.

7) Lunda Wells - NFL (Giants) and college (LSU) experience.

8) Luke Butkus - NFL (Lions/Jags) and college experience.

Home run and according to the Wisky folks is a good OL recruiter. But I'm defering to Cam!
