A reduced buyout could also include future games played between CSU and Florida with one being held in Fort Collins or Denver

That would be sweet at Mile High.

Per sources, Jim McElwain has informed his team at Colorado State that he is leaving for the Florida job LINK /

This. People will laugh and joke at the hire. But in a year or two, Florida will be a scary program once again if he can recruit Florida well.

I think Mac will kill it at Florida. Everyone in the East should be getting sick at their stomaches.

Sticky requested. There is no way Florida makes the offer and McElwain accepts and then the deal does not get done because of the buyout.

Foley would look like a complete fool at this point.

Wait did someone seriously ask if Urban developed people at UF? what do you think the Zook guys just spontaneously improved dramatically by magic or something? Derrick Harvey was about to quit football pre Meyer and left a top 10 pick.

I wanna know who ends up starting, Harris or Grier? Harris has some experience, but I liked Grier coming out.

On my phone, so I can't link, but I believe the Orlando Sentinel is citing a Colorado-based source and reporting something contrary to the OP. According to their article, CSU hasn't budged on buyout, there is less wiggle room in the buyout provision than alleged, there was no team meeting as alleged and the McElwain to UF seems less likely today than it did yesterday. I read the buyout close and didn't see a lot of wiggle room unless CSU agreed to something, but I can't see this deal failing given the public nature of the negotiations.

would be a good hire, not a flashy hire but I think he's the best available with a high ceiling.

If you're CSU why on earth would you budge on the buyout, I mean they have literally all of the cards and will win easily if it went to trial, which it won't since Foley doesn't like even a hint of controversy. I mean ot'd be malpractice for CSU to accept anything other than the cash, barring say a 2 for 1 or something with the 2 being in Colorado. I'd laugh in Foley's face if he offers a pay to play game in Gainesville unless said game pays out like 3 million because simply taking a normal pay for play is an opportunity cost-- not only do they not get the 7.5 but by scheduling Florida they can't schedule someone else for money.

Foley will fold or look like a jackass (which he seems loathe to do), if he decides to look like a Jackass you let Nebraska or Michigan step up.

Not a splash hire on paper, but it would be an outstanding hire.

That offense for Florida will improve drastically next year.

I thought he was a great coordinator for Bama.

The truth is Florida does not need a "flashy" hire to win football games. They just need a good coach and the program will take care of itself. McElwain has proven himself at every level and will do great at Florida.

The only reason I could think of is why would you want to keep a coach from leaving that really wants to go to Florida? It's one think to convince a guy to stay but to force one to stay when he wants to be elsewhere would be adversarial at best.

definitely was damn good at bama, but not all guys who are good/great coordinators turn out to be good head coaches. I'll admit i have not kept up with CSU though so i do not know how he has done there.

There is no way Jim McElwain is worth a 7.5% buyout.
