The #1 guy (Jimbo) didn't really want to come here. Then LSU didn't want to negotiate with the #2 guy (Herman). So they settled for the interim coach.

My question is, with the way it played out, what the hell was Alleva doing for the past two months?!?! The situation played out like Alleva only had one day to prepare for the hiring process.

Alleva was always gonna hire O. Every press conference, press release, and LSU website, etc. has been calling O the "head coach" since the day Les was fired. The media were the only ones using the word "interim". LSU never did. Half arse coaching search to make it look legit, but he was always hiring O.

Listen to Alleva announce the firing of Miles and O going forward. Very telling in hindsight.

Alleva had made up his mind, he was sitting on his arse for two months just hoping O would win out so he wouldn't look like a complete idiot.

He oversaw the worst "national coaching search" I've ever seen.

"What do you say, Joe?" Orgeron bellowed to LSU athletic director Joe Alleva, who smiled and slapped Orgeron on the shoulder.

"That's one down," Alleva shot back.

maybe in that 2 mos they reviewed all potential candidates and the final 3 were Jimbo, Herman, and Orgeron....I guess you think it should have been open to public and apply within for the job?

it came down to the end - because both jimbo & herman were not going to leave their teams before the season ended! they were not going to pull a deal like the guy @ louisville, did to atlanta

From everything I read (which is a lot) We refused to accept the counter-offer from Sexton- which I'm glad we did. Jimmy wasn't worth the original offer, much less the counter-offer.

We refused to get in a bidding war over an unproven coach. Thank God.. Because he would've wound up in Texas sooner or later, anyway.

The other coaches? Naah- Unless their names were Nick Saban or Urban Meyer, forget it. Oh- and Chris Pedersen wasn't coming, so scratch him, too.

Then came "The Interview." Orgeron brought his now infamous binder. Complete with his whole life of miscues, lessons learned, hard knocks, soft knocks, how he'll improve all of those things, what he thinks LSU needs, what LSU REALLY needs, how he plans to meet them in the middle, what coaches he thinks can pull this off- and if the coaches aren't available, the types of schemes they use so we can get the best options available to pull this off.. All at a discount price so he'll have money to lure those said coaches to LSU.

Then he mentioned the words "no buyout.." Alleva started humping air at this point. His proactive thought process (what little he does have) started kicking in. The risk would be for 3-4 years. All the while Alleva and the rest of the brASS could be keeping track of the other potential elite coaches coming up through the ranks.. you know, those whom they were scared to pull the trigger on this time. In 3-4 years there will be a much more solid resume for those coaches. In the meantime, recruiting would continue to be strong. So IF/when the time comes, we get that elite young coach with a roster full of talent.

Alleva blew his w*d and stood his ground. He's eyeing the future. Win-win

That is a very valid point. I believe that O will succeed but I'm not positive. He did not win all of the games he was supposed to but the team did play like a completely diff team once he took over. What if O would've lost more games? What exactly are we paying Alleva for?

It made absolutely no sense to have an opening in Sept.. no real candidate was going to commit until mid-november at the earliest, they were going to see what else was out there... Alleva should have kept Miles until after AL game, then he would not have had an interim coach try (and successfully do) steal the job, whoever got 8 games vs those teams would have went 6-2.. Hell if Alleva just forces Cameron out in Sept, Miles may still be here

yeah, at elite power 5 schools they won't want to leave.

so we'll have to choose from a crop of young unproven up and comers.
just like the crop we refused to interview this go round.
