I'm willing to give O a shot and I hope he succeeds, because if he doesn't we could end up like Tennessee.

And yes I know that we recruit better and all, but I'm still worried.

maybe in that 2 mos they reviewed all potential candidates and the final 3 were Jimbo, Herman, and Orgeron

What does that even mean though?

In this scenario one is not like the others. You have two legit either current or thought of as top tier head coaches, and then you have a coach who has not sniffed a full time head coaching gig since Ole Miss fired him. How does Orgeron even get to be #3 on this list...frick, ANY list, other than squatter's rights on the office?

The only way any of this makes any sense at all, is if essentially NO ONE but Orgeron wanted this job. If that's not the case, then I think the OP's question is a legit one///because it seems to ask how many other candidates were vetted, by whom, why did they not past muster, etc.

Because from this vantage point, it looks EXACTLY like what the OP suggests. O was the guy all along and at the very last minute there was a half-assed attempt to go with two big names and then the fall back plan.

i'm praying like hell he's wildly successful. I just don't have a whole lot of confidence in it.

PJ Fleck is in his 4th year at WM.
Willie Taggart is in his 4th season at USF
Jeff Brohm is in his 3rd season at W KY
Matt Rhule is in his 4th season at Temple

And there are a handful of coaches in their 2nd year of coaching that are showing promise.

A lot depends on the school the coach is at when deciding where/what they make a jump to. Aside from that, I believe we'll know what Orgeron is capable of after 3 years. That's plenty of time to vet and get.

It made absolutely no sense to have an opening in Sept.. no real candidate was going to commit until mid-november at the earliest, they were going to see what else was out there... Alleva should have kept Miles until after AL game, then he would not have had an interim coach try (and successfully do) steal the job, whoever got 8 games vs those teams would have went 6-2.. Hell if Alleva just forces Cameron out in Sept, Miles may still be here

This is actually a good point. I was ALWAYS uncomfortable with the notion that we hired Orgeron as Interim Coach, but that he was treating it like a job interview and digging in. As soon as they did that, they allowed the stop gap guy to send our PR guys into the press, and fricking hire one, and start pimping his staying put long term.

shite...I'd have rathered BDP be tapped as interim to simply hold things together and then get out of the way when we hired the ACTUAL new head coach.

Instead, we basically hired Orgeron on Day One of the Post Miles era and the past two months have been total bullshite parading as some grand coach search.

No offense, but this isn't the type of thing I ever want said after we hire a coach at LSU. That's what I say when I talk about my son mowing the lawn and hoping he doesn't frick it up.

"Well...he's never done this part before and it's tricky, but hell...I'll give him a shot and hope it works out."

Come to think of it, if he had fricked up someone else's lawn a bunch before, I'd ask him to go cut some other neighbor's lawns for a while to prove he could do it right before letting him cut mine...promises of having learned his lessons not with standing.

Oh believe me it's the last thing I ever want to say about LSU's new head coach. After the Florida loss I didn't think there was an AD in the country stupid enough to hire O.

I just don't want a new coach every three years.

Fedora wanted it. His agent contacted LSU. Alleva and Fedora have history together. Alleva hinted that they did preliminary feelers out to other coaches via back channels 247 site reported as much. If you hear the names that were thrown around, Holgersen, McIntyre and Gundy were most probably contacted via back channels. If you assume they were part of a list then there was some type of interest. People who say we had no chances at Jimbo or Hermann are wrong too. Well, not with Hermann after UTa job was open. But if Strong wins at least 7 games this year Hermann would have ended up at LSU.

Let's get the language right here. He isn't an ex-felon, he is a felon. Once convicted of a felony you remain a felon for life unless the conviction gets expunged or pardoned or exonerated etc.

He is an ex-convict because his sentence is over.

So a felon and former radio host is running our favorite team. frick our lives.

You are exactly right about the facts. Alleva did a thorough nation wide search and the best qualified coach who wanted the LSU HC job is Coach O.

Folks, it's pointless to continue arguing with LSU fanatics on this issue. If an objective person makes the argument that LSU's coaching "search" was not a search because only three people were interviewed and analyzed, the LSU fanatic will respond with, "You can't prove that! You have no evidence to support that! Do you want all of Alleva's process open to the public?"

Objective observers use their minds and their eyes and conclude that there was no professional and thorough coaching search. No professional coaching search firm was hired. Alleva alone did the "search".

There was no search. That's what any objective observer would conclude. Of course, a fanatical devotee of LSU football would disagree.

what the hell was Alleva doing for the past two months?!?!

Seems clear to me that, for whatever the reason, O was his pick from the beginning and he did whatever he had to do to insure he got who he wanted.

The funny thing is LSU fans who bitched non-stop about Les not being successful enough and how LSU deserved better are now trying to justify a scam search and back a guy who hasn't don't shite as a HC other than interim coach a few games with another man's talent and coaching staff.

The situation played out like Alleva only had one day to prepare for the hiring process.

Texas had 20 hours and got their guy. That should tell you all you need to know about Alleva and his grand "search".

If O wins 10+ games a year none of this will matter. If he craters like he did at Ole Miss, everyone in the loop should be fired.

He wanted Orgeron and let things play out to that end. There was no serious coaching search.

The risk would be for 3-4 years. All the while Alleva and the rest of the brASS could be keeping track of the other potential elite coaches coming up through the ranks..

There is absolutley 0 chance that Alleva is around to make the next hire if Orgeron has to be fired in 3-4 years. Alleva is riding and dying with Orgeron, and if that happens in that short of time frame then Alleva will not be hiring the next coach.
