No. LSU is not a blue blood.

On the cusp? Yes.

But not a blue blood.

Let Herman build the program up for 5 years, win a championship along the way, get back to national recognition and then we pluck another big name away from somewhere..... versus hiring jimbo for 10 years and him going stagnant after 5, then have to fire him with a huge buyout?!?!?! Herman anyday!!!!

Herman, and jimbo is a few years away from being canned at fl st. He is on a miles like downward path having lost 7 games in less than 2 years despite having more talent than all he lost to.

Exactly this. OP raises a good point, but fails to acknowledge this reality. Jimbo will mail probably it in if he wins another NC (and that's a big if) just like he's doing now. We don't need another 5 years of irrelevance.

Herman is the higher risk, higher reward pick.

If Herman leverages LSU for an NFL job after a national championship, we say please and thank you.

This is all I'm saying. I think we know what we're gonna get with Jimbo. A bunch of 10-2/9-3 Les Miles type seasons. But we'll put everything together and go on championship runs
more often, if only for the fact that we'll get significantly better QB play.

Sure. Why not make up your own argument and conclusion.

I think Herman is much more capable to go on a 2-3 year championship run than Jimbo. But like I said before, he's also more likely to lay a couple
8-4/7-5 turd seasons too.

And this pisses people off.

LSU isn't going 14-0 every year. Sorry to make some posters cry, but it's truth. But... LSU will compete for SEC and playoffs yearly if it's Jimbo. And when we hit it, it's lights out, 2 close games and the rest blowouts. Arky, MSU, Ole Miss, TAMU will have LSU ball imprints on their faces from the yearly tea-bagging.

Regardless, as someone who wants Herman, I did not like all those leaks last night. Even if Herman was at one
time absolutely sold on LSU last night, unnecessary reports can corner a guy and make him make unnecessary decisions later. I believe Les had agreed to take
the Michigan job in '07, but
Herbstreits report forced him to show
his hand early and extend with LSU. I hope last night didn't put Herman in the same awkward position.

Point taken, but Houston is irrelevant right now and LSU was in a national championship season.

I agree. And this is why I understand both arguments. I just want people
to be able to justify their position. Mine is that I think Jimbo is Miles in his 1st 3 years. We are a developed QB away from competing for a championship next year or the next. HErman, on the other hand, may not quite hit the ground as running--his offense may take
longer to install.

But like this thread asks, would you rather have Jimbo for the next 10-12 years and know what you're getting
or gamble on Herman for 5-6 years and be excited

Herman. Think about it. If Herman gets us a Natty, that would show the world that it was not JUST Saban and not JUST Miles, but it was LSU that produced Natty's with 3 coaches in a row.

So, think about how easy it would be to lure a coach over to LSU with that resume.

I'm pretty sure LSU was only in an SEC Championship season. We didn't emerge as NC contenders until the next week I believe.

I too, take your point, though. But it's not about UH to me as much as it is Herman himself. He does kiss his players before each game, ya know? I could see him "pushed" into lEtting them know a bit early if they asked.

Coaches at Tier 1 jobs don't leave for other Tier 1 Jobs:

So don't think you have to worry about "blue bloods." Maybe Texas becomes his Moby Dick, though.

NFL though, maybe.

my concern is herman's QB development and recruiting.

jimbo is the best QB developer out there. But herman has always been my #2. I like the power spread but we need a Qb to run that. A tim tebow, cam newton, cardale jones or JT barrett/braxton miller type.

Can scott or mcmillan do it?

Scott definitely could. He rushed for like 2,500 yards his senior year.
