For those of us who like Herman, we have to concede that there's pretty much no chance that he stays at LSU for 25 years. That is just not realistic. So, if he bounces, he'll likely do it to the NFL or a college blue blood within the next 5-6 years.

Jimbo, however, is a bit older and is almost definitely at his last stop unless he gets fired like Lessfter 10+ years.

Wat?

You are stupid and out of touch with today's football.

LSU is a blue blood job

Easy, let's get Herman for 5, then when he leaves get Jimbo for 10

Herman could be here longer than 5 years, it just depends.

Not sure why people just assume every elite coach wants to go pro.

Those grown men with nasty attitudes really gonna go for the kissy huggy stuff? (sarcasm)

So, for those of us who want Herman (I think he has the higher ceiling, but the lowest floor, whereas Jimbo is more safe--he has the higher floor, but the lower ceiling.
I loved Les and defended him longer than most. But I always knew that the best he could ever do was to put us in a place where we finished 10-2/9-3 every year, but then went on a championship run when everything came together, either with a special QB or just a special group( like '11).
I think Jimbo--at worst--will extend that and probably be in a position to win championships a little more often because of how well he recruits and develops QBs.

There's no chance any coach will stay anywhere that long anymore. So what? I'm okay with Herman staying only 5 years if he wants to go to the NFL, and I don't see any successful LSU coach leaving for another college team.

Whereas, I think Herman has a better chance of challenging Saban and Bama every year, but also is more likely than Jimbo to drop some 8-4/7-5 type seasons.

I am happy to take the risk. Is everybody else?

True. Urban Meyer probably won't go to the NFL in his entire career.

I don't. I don't know Herman at all or his ambitions. I'm just saying because he's only 45(ish ), I think it's unlikely that LSU is his last job. Nothing negative about us, I just can't imagine a coach now staying 20-25 years at the same school. He's not stupid, he gets it too and will likely challenge himself jn his early 50s. And being at such a great program, the only moves that would make sense are NFL or Ohio State/Texas/USC, etc...jobs

Personally, I take Jimbo either way.

Jimbo is 50. Herman is 41.

Nick Saban is 65 and at the top of his game. Too many teens and early 20s dudes on this board think 50 (Jimbo) is old for a coach.

I have reasons for Jimbo because he's more of a known commodity. NC ring as OC, NC ring as HC, playoff as HC, he knows these stomping grounds, proven recruiter.

But it's a 1A vs 1B with Jimbo/Herman IMO. There are no guarantees, you hire the resume.

That's fair. And I concede Jimbo clearly has the better resume. He is the smarter and safer hire. But I still want Herman. Jimbo seems tired to me.

If we land either I am dancing bananas irl.

Don't care. Either could be better or worse, great or terrible. No one knows the end results. What we can do is hire the potential. LSU HC job is a huge gig and pays well.
