And wasn't "Selene" in disguise during her first appearances? Pretty, as I recall, but not in her true form?

I think she was gorgeous from the start

Yeah, she wasn't as gorgeous as her natural looks, but she was a knockout even in disguise.

The Selene lady is an ok looking lady, but its hilariously on brand for the casting on this show and that the show runner is gay.

You mean how every girl on the show looks like her best friend is a gay guy

I SWEAR they purposefully made the women less attractive, because he couldn't possibly let them get attention for their beauty.

It’s correct. It’s an agenda.

Anyway…

Narg, who has a big online presence and followed s1 relentlessly and had all kinds of inside stuff, and HATED s1 with a passion for this board has watched the first 2 episodes and…

Liked it ok. He says it’s much much better than s1. It’s not what he wants in terms of a WoT show (too many changes for a purist), but he does say the quality is better.

I couldn't make it past the third episode. The uncertainty of whether the Dragon will be a man or a woman was just an utter abandonment of the books. The most powerful channeler who ever lived is destined to be born again. He'll be a man and that rightfully scares the piss out of everyone.

I watched the first 3 episodes of season 2 this weekend.

It's an order of magnitude better than season 1.

Not entirely sure what all they changed between seasons, but it seems like there's a lot less greenscreen and more location filming. Everything feels more "real" if that makes sense. Everything is dirtier. More genuine. The stakes feel higher.

The dialogue is much better as well. Not nearly as cheesy or Star Wars'y if you know what I mean. The conversations feel more natural and the responses seem more authentic.

The entire tone is darker and feels more dangerous.

I kept asking. If a woman could be the Dragon, what is the point of the Dragon?

There are thousands of active, open, and public female magic users in the world.

It was completely nonsensical.

It really made me wonder if Rafe even UNDERSTOOD the story he was retelling.

To be fair, it was Moiraine's belief that the dragon could be male or female, and she admitted to Suian that they knew basically nothing about the dragon. I think that was a case of them showinng aes sedai ignorance.

I know you arent watching anymore, but in one of the season 2 episodes Verin immediately connects the dragon with one of the boys Moiraine had with her and Verin would know much more than Moiraine.

But anyway, season 2 is a huge improvement so far, especially episodes 2 and 3 which are legit great episodes of television. Love the Rand/Selene dynamic in the show as it is so much more believable and compelling than the books. Love Elayne who they have cast and written perfectly so far. And I love this version of the Seanchan. Hopefully they can sustain the momentum and really start to build things up for season 3.

Moiraine knew enough to know that it could never be a woman. So did all of the Aes Sedai.

It was utter nonsense

The Dragon being female would have been dismissed as nonsense to anyone with an inkling of knowledge.

The difference in the male and female sides of the magic is a central part of the story. There is no way the Dragon would be female

Her belief in the TV series? Because I sure as hell do not recall her feeling that way in the book, which is the problem

Exactly. The whole world is terrified of the Dragon's return. That's such a central part of the story and it only makes sense in the context of tainted saidin.

I agree with all of this.

It just sucks how poorly some of these folks were cast.

The red with the massive jawline is so ugly its distracting. Even my wife laughs/cringes when she's on screen. Its like they are forcing her full face in frame as much as possible.

I think the acting is good all around, for a bunch of homely british kids.

I was so confused at some scenes as I know they aren't from the books. I am going to reluctantly head over to Reddit to see what I can piece together.

Trying to make it a mystery and to make Egwene/Nynaeve more important initially by making the Dragon be able to be Man or Woman was a massive mistake.

And I think it was more than just trying to maintain mystery: it was about Transgender stuff and not trying to piss off that community I think.

Also, Perrin seems to be doing a better job this season.

I've watched the first 3. While I do agree that the production seems better from a technical perspective, I truly do not understand what they're trying to do with the plot. The writing and acting is passable, but I really think the main cast are doing worse than many of the minor characters.

The Perrin/Seanchan storyline isn't making much sense and feels like an afterthought within the story.

I do get why they changed Moiraine's story (because Pike has to get screen time), but her new story is not interesting at all.

Maybe? She's attractive, but falls a bit short of her book description. Considering who they've cast for some of the other roles, I suppose I should be grateful.

I get not every woman would be a knockout as portrayed in the books but they could've tried to cast even passably attractive women. Elayne is good looking but Egwene is meh at best, Aviendha is horrible, and Min looks like a man.

Anyone still watching?

I have not watched it yet. There seems to be a consensus especially among non book readers that S2 is much much better.

There is still a split in book readers, with many feeling a bit better about it now, and many just not able to get over the changes.
