Why did we bring so many Wingers and FBs but no CMs?

Is our talent pool just that shallow at CM? Musah was dead last game in the 70th minute and mckennie has has to sub off due to being tired in every match.

Yet our options to replace them are Acosta (CM) Roldan (who plays wing for club) and de la torre (cam off bench for club)

I know people will say Reyna but he is also not a CM for his club. I do think he is our best option for replacing musah if acosta has already came on for Mckennie, but Reyna is not a defensive minded player

What other midfielders should we have brought?

Maybe Lletget? A backup CM in a 4-3-3 seems like somethin missing off the bench compared to a 5th backup winger in jordan Morris

Central midfield is our strongest and thinnest position. We have three great ones, a solid but limited back-up, and not much else.

I would have brought Arriola because he is versatile but he isn’t a CM.

Nips seems like the biggest snub, but if Nips is your biggest snub…

Yeah, it’s between him, Cannon, and Pepi.

Honestly my biggest concern (and this should tell you how trivial our roster omissions are) is that the lack of Pepi opens itself up for negative recruiting by the Mexican NT for dual nationals.

The fact that Mexico brought zero duals nationals makes this concern obsolete imo.

The great soccer mind Bill Simmons was openly pondering this during his eponymous podcast last night.

If that's who is first on your mind, then you basically answered your question.

Improves the WAG quality for sure but I don’t think there are many WAGS in Qatar.

Logic would suggest this but I’m not sure it will work.

The David Ochoa “as told by” in the Players Tribune was eye-opening in that regard.

He was using every excuse in his mind to join Mexico. “The older Mexican players were polite and didn’t bully me like all of the younger players” was his proud selling point, essentially.

What have loved to have given Mihailovic a chance. His injury before the June camp may have killed any opportunity to acclimate him though, which Gregg values.

I mean at least he would have a use. We cant possibly use all these wingers and fullbacks we brought unless we sub on 5 wings in 1 game running this 4-3-3

My god I hope Sands, Busio (or any of the other Venezia boys), or someone else develops into a solid option, because we are so thin at central midfield for this next cycle.

Aaronson and Reyna can play CM. Gregg is an idiot.

Sure they can play it but they aren't box to box mids they are attacking midfielders/wingers

Geoff Cameron isn’t walking through that door.

What is really fun about this cycle is the same roster, other than ream, should still be relevant in 4 years. Assuming health it’s hard to see someone displacing Robinson, Dest, Adams, McKennie, Musah, Pulisic, Weah as starters in 2026.

Hopefully we can find a striker, some midfield depth and upgrade our first choice CBs over the next 4 years (and add another capable keeper).

I think Aaronson could play as an 8.

Cardoso is a good shout, will be interesting to see how he develops. Mihailovic and tillman could probably also fill that 8 role if they work on their defense a bit. Jack McGlynn looks promising. Edelman, Aiden Morris, Niko Tsakiris, Alex Mendez, Alejandro Alvarado, Obed Vargas, Rokas Pukstas, etc are all young guys who could have an impact. Plus our MMA and LDLT are all young. I still have hope in Paxton Pomykal.
