In your opinion, what 5 cities in the United State should every American visit?

ETA: The Boston vs. Chicago thread made me think of this topic

To avoid an old and trite argument, I'm not bothering to rank them.

My five:

New York City
Washington D.C.
San Francisco
Chicago
New Orleans

I have to be honest, the only reason I have ever wanted to go to Miami was for the Super Bowl, and L.A. has absolutely no appeal to me.

To each his own, but I'm surprised to see these two in a Top 5 list.

I tried to list cities that have their own distinct culture and/or history. Miami hits the distinct culture marks for me.

LA does nothing for me.

I included them for this reason.

L.A. is a city known all over the world, for many good, and of course bad reasons. but it is an Icon.

Miami, it's a taste of another county. Different to be exact.

Like how I dont see Chicago as anything special. Maybe its because I've been there a few times, but I would recommend it to anyone.

Much prefer Lower AlaBama to Los Angeles.

Didn't leave anything in New York City, Las Vegas, or San Francisco.

OK, pocket change in Vegas slot machines...LoL.

In order.....

New York City

Boston
Chicago
New Orleans
Washington DC

Regarding Los Angeles- I live there, I love living there. There is such a variety of things to do. But it belongs nowhere near this top 5 list.

edit- for anyone that enjoys partying, gambling or sinning you can put Vegas at #2 on the list
