Looking to take a Vegas guys trip for 4th of July weekend. 2-3 nights. Is it best to fly out of MSY or BTR? (located in BR btw). Looks like Southwest would be the best rates for flights, although the flights back get a little hairy with all the time change.

Looking at getting rooms at The Wynn, but open for other ideas. Any thoughts? TIA

New York New York has always been my favorite hotel. Only issue with that, pending your age, its an older crowd.

I like the Flamingo because it is cheap, renovated fairly recently, right at the middle of the strip, and it has a great pool.

I couldn't care less about how nice the rooms are because I'm barely there anyway. Just that they are clean.

Wynn is great. We were there for 4th of July weekend a couple of years ago and stayed next door at The Venitian which is my current favorite . All of the rooms are suites. July 4th weekend is very crowded in Vegas. Fun though.

If cost is not an issue - Bellagio, Caesar's Palace or The Venetien. I've head the Wynn is a "meeting hotel"

You should be able to get cheaper flights from MSY if that's a concern. I am going the week after you and staying at the Venetian. The Wynn is a very nice hotel as well, the only concern could be that they are located at the Northern end of the strip. You will have to do quite a bit of walking or taxi around if you plan on jumping from Casino to Casino. Definitely not a deal breaker, just something to think about.

Southwest flies direct from MSY.

Do that.

If you only going for 2-3 days, 6am direct flight out of MSY on Southwest and a direct flight that leaves Vegas at 7pm. With those flights, a Friday - Sunday is perfect. Like another poster said, it's a good walk from the Wynn to everything else. For a guys trip, I would recommend Planet Hollywood. Younger crowd, center of the strip, not too fancy.

vegas.com has great deals. I travel back home all the time and it is usually the cheapest.

We stayed at a suite in the Venetian. While it was great, we would easily choose the Cosmopolitan or Aria next time.

The social/happy hour was fun and the restaurants were top notch.

Fly out of MSY is better. Not far of a drive really. Have a few good non stop flights there and back each day.

P.S. If you haven't book your flights, contact me I can save you a few!

Could not disagree more. The Wynn/Encore blows away your list except maybe location. If money was no issue in my life, I would never leave Wynn/Encore.

Take the nonstops out of MSY to Vegas.

Depends on a lot, is this your first trip to Vegas or first in many many years? If so, I recommend something more center strip. If wanting to stay at or near the same level as Wynn I would recommend NOBU @ Ceaser's, Cromwell, Bellagio, Aria or Cosmopolitan. Wynn has enough stuff where over a short weekend you would never need to leave the property for anything. But if you're doing all of the usual tourist stuff then it's a long walk to everywhere. General in Vegas is everything is far. It might look close but often properties are set back a little bit plus they're just massive in general. Also for gambling if your budget doesn't allow for $15/$25 per hand your table games will be limited at the Wynn to mostly non-peak hours. You can get lucky and find blackjack for $10/hand but normally doesn't have the best rules (6:5 on natural BJ, dealer hits on S17, etc.).

Spirit airline out of MSY is real cheap right now. I saw round trip in June around 180.

As far as hotel, If I'm going with a buddy, we'd stay average hotels(harrah's, casino royale). All I need is clean bed an a shower.

If you're going with SO for romantic reason, I'd say Wynn, Palazzo/Ventian. Mirage redid their rooms and they look nice. Aria is nice. Bellagio is getting old.

And rent a car!!

I would have agreed with you 10-15 years ago. These are still great hotels, but Cosmopolitan and encore/wynn are now the top 2 destinations.

I'd even place Aria above the 3 you mentioned.

If I have the option to fly Non-Stop I always do. Summer weather can lose you a day outbound or inbound in a connecting city.

It may cost just as much as MSY's parking may be higher than BTR's and it's a further drive for you to & from MSY but it's still non-stop. That's me. If you ever spend an unintended night at a connecting airport, you'll be more sensitized to this possibility.

As to the hotel, I'm cheap in Las Vegas as it's always been just a sleeping and showering place for me. The Flamingo has always been my go-to. Great location. There are much nicer hotels I am sure.

Good luck.
