Turkish airlines.. would you fly with them?

I've taken 2 trips with Turkish- Europe and SE Asia. No hiccups, food is decent, entertainment is good.
From the recent bombing at the airport, I'm hesitant to fly with them again.
I'm going to Italy next year and the flight is $776 round trip from Houston...

I had a flight booked on Turkish but changed to Qatar after the coup attempt. My experience with Qatar was so great, I doubt I would give Turkish a look again unless the price difference was significant.

Difference is about $300. Not too much.

Not sure if this would work for you, but Emirates is having a sale. You and a companion, roundtrip to Milan from HOU via JFK, for $1139.

Why wouldn't you fly, some people amaze me with their concerns

Fantastic airline. Great food and service.

Uhh.. the bombings in the airport. The turmoil in that country? All their flights have a layover in ataturk. When I came back from Thailand last November, we had a 8 hour layover. We spent it in the city. 2 days later, there were bombings in the touristy area we were.
I might be a bit paranoid but it is a concern to some extent.

Sorry for being so blunt let me try and answer the question for you.... Istanbul's main international airport and fortress hub of Turkish Airlines , is VERY secure. When they had the terrorist attack at the airport, the terrorists never even got past the front door.
At Istanbul, you are screened THREE times prior to your flight -- first as you are coming into the airport, then again after passport control, and finally once more before your flight on U.S. bound journeys. The terrorists walked into the arrival's hall and when they could not get past the first layer of security, they detonated their bombs. 41 were killed, but the safety of those on the secure side of the airport was not at risk. No transit passengers were ever in danger.
Turkey is going through a volatile time, but the main airport in Istanbul is safer than it has ever been with transit passengers facing virtually no risk. Turkish Airlines provides a superior product both on the ground and in the air and offers attractive pricing and plenty of award space paired with an unbelievable route map to destinations around the world.
Now security at the airport is even tighter, they have cars checked for bombs as they enter the airport premises
For comparative analysis I was at O Hare aiport when 33 people were shot and killed over the weekend in Chicago. I was in Thailand at Suvarnabhumi when the red shirts were taking over the black shirts. I was at Kuala Lumpur International airport when Malaysian Airlines was shot down over Russia and I was flying Malaysian air to Australia the next day. Everything has its risk but to think it is an extremely high risk is just ignorant. I have traveled to over 50 different countries and really never felt much danger unfortunately if you live your life through the media your life will be lived in paralysis and in fear.
There is no perfect security in this world and to reject Turkish Airlines because of the broader narrative unfolding in Turkey is both foolish and unecessary.

You sound very salty.
Take a chill pill. It's Friday.
I'm flying American bc it's slightly higher with a shorter layover.
Thanks for the info.

You ever been in a Turkish prison?

I'm going with.....let us know when you travel. Sounds like a black cloud follows you.
To the OP, I've flown Turkish from Istanbul to Chicago. I vowed NEVER again. Normally fly UA to and from Turkey and experienced a problem on the last trip getting out of Turkey when I wanted to but was finally able to get one out through TA. Just didn't like the overcrowding. The food was pretty good though.

I am flying with them this Friday. Going to Delhi, India from Houston. We stop in Istanbul on the way. Tickets were only $700 apiece! I hear the food is great and I am really looking forward to it!

Asks for advice, gets the most emphatic advice ever, ignores it.
Great thread!

Dude, you're going to have to fill us in on this. Interested in seeing some places again and the new stuff you end up doing.

I see you've received some snarky replies, but it's a valid question. The State Department issued a new warning for Turkey just yesterday. Unless it's just an extremely good deal you're getting, it's not worth the risk to transit through Turkey imho.
U.S. citizens should avoid travel to southeast Turkey and carefully consider the risks of travel to and throughout the country.

Flew Houston to Athens via Istambul on TA last May. Will do it again.
The bombing was no where near the safe areas of the airport.
And the next bombing could be outside of the airport in Paris, Rome or London.
You can't travel skeered.

Yes, absolutely. Fantastic airline. Better flying experience than an American airline and the airport is quite secure, particularly for a layover.
