Travelling alone as a stress reliever?

I hate this make this thread more OTish but was thinking on this over the weekend with a bunch of crap I had to deal with (work/friend dramas/etc), but do you sometimes do this to escape reality for a bit and also, do it on such spur of the moments? Additionally, what places have you done to really get away from a lot of the crap?
For me, being in West Texas, Caprock Canyon is a nice day trip (90 min one way). If I want to spend more time away, New Mexico is really neat too.

I've done a few motorcycle trips alone. My cross country national park tour was done by myself. Was one of the best trips of my life. Met a lot of really cool people I probably wouldn't of met had I done it with friends and we kept to ourselves.
It definitely was a lot less stressful because I was the only one making the decisions about what I did and when I did it.

Yes, particularity if you find solace in nature. I went to Iceland for a 4 day trek and it really helped clear my mind to immerse myself in the epic landscapes. Not to mention, it's also easy to meet other hikers who generally have a positive disposition.

I went to Norway for a month alone this past summer. I had small anxiety attacks from time to time, but overall it was revolutionary.
I did what I wanted when I wanted. Literally hiked for days, then stayed in a 5-star hotel with my feet up...no schedule, just doing me.

Nice stuff. I typically travel alone a lot but not as many spur of the moment things especially right now due to an upcoming france trip. However i had such a shite last day or two that I'm tempted to escape for a bit

I ONLY travel alone. You're missing out on a lot of self reflection and growth if you are relying on someone else.
You are forced out of your comfort zone and will meet people you never would have had you been with someone else.
Obviously if you are married or something this isn't practical but for a single person just do it.

I've been on 4-5 day solo backpacking trips. I love it. Having my sons with me is great also but solo really clears your mind.

Agreed, I really enjoy traveling alone, went on a solo trip this summer up to St. Louis for a soccer game, ended up making some really cool new friends who I still keep in touch with (who were also fans of the same team I support)

I take one trip a year by myself and it's amazing. No wife. No kids. No stress. I did Vegas once for a sports betting weekend and that was incredible. I did New York once too and that wasn't bad. I think everyone should do it. I always meet fascinating people I'd never meet otherwise.

I have a similar story, 2 years ago I flew up to columbus for the OSU/Michigan State game solo. Don't care for either team, I just wanted to see a venue I knew UGA wouldn't ever visit and decided I'd just make it happen by going myself. I had a blast and have no complaints at all. The common theme here as others have said is that you don't have to worry about anyone else's time or desires other than your own. It's nice being able to do what you want, when you want, without having to appease a group.

Traveling alone for CFB is a ton of fun, even neutral. Went to Texas/OU in Dallas a few years ago and had a blast

I did a Brussels/Amsterdam trip alone.
I went to San Francisco once alone.
I've been on a few work trips were I manage to get out in the city by myself. Traveling alone has it's ups and downs. It's nice to be able to do whatever you want, but sometimes when I'm alone I just want someone to share the experience with. Thinking about Havana for next weekend.

Its my life long dream to take a vacation alone. Ive never heard one bad thing about people who do it.
Im a history buff and would love being on my own schedule and spending a few days in and around the DC area touring places and Civil War battle sites.
Eat when i want, drink when i want, go where i want. Heaven

I moved to Manila when I retired and I really like it. You want to take a good Flight try LAX to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. Its about 15 hours and you can sleep, eat, watch movies, etc. The Flight Attendants are Chinese. Hong Kong is their Home Base and Hong Kong is nice. Enjoy!!

I like to take lengthy road trips alone - in a couple of weeks I'll drive solo from Asheville to Dallas then to Louisiana and back. It really charges my batteries.

I have been various places around the world alone. Granted they were business trips, but I never went anywhere that wasn't a week at a time. There is something to be said about being alone, doing want you want for days at a time. I was fortunate to have do that for quite a few years. This was before smart phones as well, which I feel, keep you connected to some extent

Same for me. A majority of my travel is for work and solo for weeks at a time. It can be nice at times, doing whatever I want with no one else to worry about. My wife also loves to travel, so I often wish she was there to experience some of the places that I get to see. She's also usually in the same mindset as me on what's worth doing/seeing in a place.
