My SO and I are looking for a quick weekend getaway that doesn't force us to burn much vacation. She wants to ride the ferry to Ship island for one day, but aside from that I'm not sure what to do. Neither of us really likes to gamble but I wouldn't rule out staying at a casino if someone recommends one. She likes art and old architecture so I was thinking maybe stay in Bay St. Louis? I'm from MS so I'm pretty familiar with the area just haven't really vacationed there much. TIA

Pass Christian and Ocean Springs are the nicest of those towns. Pass Christian has a ton of nice houses but there isn't much to do. Ocean Springs is better for a short trip. Of course you can easily visit all of them. If she's in to art and architecture then there's the Walter Anderson museum and Beauvoir, where Jefferson Davis lived. That's all I got.

How are the accommodations in Pass Christian? That would let us be closer to the ferry. This would be for the weekend so any recs on dinner spots or lodging are appreciated.

it's mostly homes and condos. Try airbnb. Bacchus on the Beach and Hook are your best bets for good meals in PC, but Shaggys is fine for bar food. There are more options ins BSL but i'm not as familiar.

Even without the gambling, Beau Rivage is a fun place to go. Take in a show, go across the street and catch a Shuckers game, some nice golf courses (get SO to just ride along and enjoy the scenery). Not hard to make a full weekend.

I live in the Pass and love it. It's quieter than some other coast towns.

A couple new places have just opened. Hotel Whiskey in downtown PC. It has a steak house and what looks like a nice bar downstairs. It's right next door to several other places like Hook. We really enjoy Bacchus on the Beach (especially sitting outside). Another boutique hotel, Hotel Pass Christian, just opened up right next to it. Across Hwy 90 from there is Shaggy's (good drinks, bar food and beach atmosphere) and a new little burger type food shack. Cat Island coffehouse has good coffee and a large book selection if that's your thing.

Just over the bridge in downtown BSL, there's several bars that are a good time and several other good restaurants. I've never had trouble getting an Uber back either. The Blind Tiger is a good time. We enjoy Trapani's for dinner, but there's several others down there.

Depending on when you are there, there's always some type of outdoor weekend event in either Pass or BSL. This is all just over on the West side of the Coast. Going East opens up a lot more.

The water out there hasn't been as good as usual with all the rain. BUT it was still looking pretty good on the South side as of last weekend. Just make sure you wear shoes for walking across the boardwalk or your feet will never forgive you.

I don't like casinos, or casino hotels. MSGC has plenty even if you avoid those. The O'Keefe-Ohr art museum in Biloxi is a really cool spot, with permanent exhibits on mad potter George Ohr, and some changing exhibits in other galleries. Building is by Frank Gehry...bonus is a small but interesting gift shop with lots of MS crafts, including jewelry & textiles. Biloxi has the Maritime Museum, with nice exhibits...best part is the two Biloxi Bay schooners docked at their pier. The schooners make regular sail trips; you can reserve a trip & bring food/beverages aboard. Museum has a nice gallery on boatbuilding, too (a personal favorite).

Ocean Springs is charming & also has the Walter Anderson museum...and a couple blocks from that is Realizations, a gallery owned by members of the Anderson family. So you can buy a hand-tinted print made with one of Anderson's actual woodblocks.

Downtown Gulfport has a few interesting restaurants (including a wood fired pizza/Italian place whose name escapes me) and the Chandeleur Brewing Co tap room. IIRC, Chandeleur has to sell you a "tour", which allows you to drink in the taproom. Dunno if the laws were changed recently or not, but I found the staff friendly, happy to talk about beer, and not overly crowded on a random Saturday afternoon.

I'd stay in BSL or Ocean Springs...both offer some interesting small town stuff.

If you're outdoorsy, canoeing on the Wolf River is always a kick. But it's bloody hot outside, in case you haven't noticed.

Would you be interested in brewery tours? The Lazy Magnolia is just north of I-10 in Kiln and Chandeleur Brewery is just north of Hwy 90 in Gulfport.

We've done both and the one at Lazy Magnolia is better but it is a larger brewery.

Thanks for the breakdown, I had zeroed in on Hotel Pass Christian right before I read your post. Should be able to cover dinner friday and saturday in that area or across the bay, and catch a drink after. I had no idea that area had Uber now, that's a game changer. What would you suggest for sunday before heading back? She's a white chick through and through so brunch spots? What are the main historic/shopping areas that we could park and walk?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I Second bachus as a great beach front food and drink joint, we like for lunch. they recently opened second location in Biloxi. For evening dining of course mary mahoneys, mignons at the palace casino and a fairly new spot that wife and I have been to a few times is patio 44 in downtown Biloxi. good food reasonable prices, great bar scene. Leo's in ocean springs will have a one or two pc live music scene with food and drink on their patio starting at 1 pm Saturday and sunday. ENJOY

Another option I forgot about is Oak Crest Mansion in Pass. It's a beautiful old B&B, but not on the beach (lots of B&Bs in BSL too, closer to the water). I've seen mentions of brunch there, but never been. I imagine that would be cool even if not staying there.

HarborView Cafe in Long Beach has a very good breakfast until 11 on weekends (kinda brunch...). Bacchus on the Beach has an actual brunch and usually with bottomless mimosas, etc. I belive. Sycamore House in BSL has a good brunch, but better check hours.

historic/shopping areas

In that area, there's a few shops in downtown Pass. Old Town BSL has more, but not sure on Sundays for most places. If you make it over to Ocean Springs, there would be more options downtown.

There's a place in Long Beach that's rather un-assuming, but has a good beer selection to go (for MS anyway) - Long Beach Market and Deli. The food is pretty good too with lots of Korean/Vietnamese items on the menu, plus many other standard things.

Solid additions further East

Tony's. Very good. You can also visit the wine bar next door and order pizza from Tony's to your table.

Chandeleur Brewing Co tap room. IIRC, Chandeleur has to sell you a "tour", which allows you to drink in the taproom.

The laws just change for MS on July 1st.

I haven't paddled/floated the Wolf in years...years ago, we used to rent from an outfitter who had two black labs that LOVED to tag along on the float. The dogs would ride in the boat, swim alongside, or combo swim/run along the banks. It was a hoot. You could rent the canoes with or without dog escort.

Sounds like a good partner. I have never rented from them, but have spent and still do spend time on the wolf.

Again thanks for all the suggestions guys. I've got all the outdoor activity stuff covered but she's more of a city gal. Looks like I've got plenty to work with as far as finding ways to kill time.

For Sunday brunch the Sycamore House in BSL...she will LOVE it.

Check the little theatre schedules, BSL or Pass, maybe y'all could catch a show one evening.

In BSL there's a second Saturday every month where vendors come out to sell goods and art, the towns pretty live for those evenings. Shopping in general is why women love Old Towne, luckily for men it's only two blocks worth.

Bay Towne Inn is BSLs boutique hotel.

You could bar hop all day and struggle to hit them all.
