Book your flight months ago.

Not to be a jerk about it, but it is what it is at a certain point. Flights are going to be expensive. He can either choose to pay that or stay home.

As someone who found out tonight I have to be in San Francisco on Tuesday, I feel his pain. The only difference is my work has to eat the cost.

I'm still seeing some options into Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison for under $500. Just depends on when he wants to come back.

Bereavement fares aren't that good. This option is $497

Have him check southwest too.

Another alternative - try flying into Minneapolis and staying in Wausau or Stevens Point.

Can't book SW WGA fares this close in. The Anytime and BS fares are going to be wayyy too expensive. Under $500 isn't that bad to be honest.
