Never been so trying to plan everything out.

Probably will fly out of New Orleans ... which airport should be fly into?

Good hotels close to everything?

Must try restaurants?

Anything a must see other than the obvious touristy stuff?

Take southwest or american's nonstop into Reagan airport (DCA). Can usually find tickets around $200 roundtrip

Excellent... I was thinking SW would be the way to go.

Southwest to Reagan National. Easy to Metro into DC.

anyone have any feedback on the grand Hyatt? Looks like rooms sent to outrageous there and it seems fairly close to everything.

What are some 300ish a night hotels that are closer that a decent?

We are going the week of Easter as well. Using IHG points to stay at the Willard for 5 nights and Delta points to fly round trip to Reagan. Interested in seeing what people have to say about restaurants and such

Check out the Capitol Hilton. Nothing fancy but a good location. I always stay there when I'm in DC for work.

If you like bourbons/whiskeys, definitely go to Jack's Rose for a nightcap. It's ridiculously impressive.

DCA, hands down. This isn't a close call if you're flying domestically.

Dulles is the connector for international flights. BWI can be okay for domestics if you're fine with a 2 hour trip to your hotel and the price is right.

Otherwise, stick with DCA.

Is it unreasonable to think I can get a decent hotel around 300ish a night that'd be close to everything?

I just got back from a week in DC. We flew non stop into Reagan on Southwest. We were checking into our hotel about 20 mins later. We stayed at Marriot in Foggy Bottom. We liked the location as it was within walking distance of Georgetown, DuPont Circle, the Metro station etc. It was only about a $4 Uber pool ride to anywhere on the Mall.

The Grand Hyatt looked very convenient to things as well. It's definitely closer to the Mall area, but DC is pretty compact. Nothing seemed far away at all. We got everywhere we wanted to be in like 5-10mins. Get ready for a lot of walking no matter where you stay though.

We did a lot in our week and had a great time. If you have any questions about attractions, museums, etc. Let me know.

If you're into religious landmarks, or even if you're not, the national basilica of the immaculate conception is breathtaking and underrated. Also, Arlington national cemetery would be #1 on my must-see list. Been twice and I plan on many more trips.

This. We skipped the National Cathedral and went to the Basilica instead. It's the largest Catholic Church in North America and the 10th largest in the world. It was incredible. Even the smaller chapels in the crypt were amazing.

this is a good location and a fairly quiet part of the city. Easy to walk to most places or get on the metro/uber

Spring time will be perfect weather for being able to walk a lot of not get too hot and sweaty

Looking between the Westin DC Center or maybe the Grand Hyatt Washington ... looks like they're both 4 star and about 300 a night.. any advantage to one over the other?

On the restaurant front...

Le Diplomat is a fantastic French bistro/brasserie spot. Had a really great meal there and place is very lively. Make reservations for dinner. The Partisan was also a nice spot for lunch (think of it like a Butcher/Cochon spot if you are familiar with that).

Rose's Luxury is on my list but its first come, first serve so didnt get to try it with kids on last trip.

Have also enjoyed Jaleo and Oyamel by Jose Andres, as well as some great Ethiopian in Adams Morgan area.

And despite the fake news surrounding it, went to Comet Pizza and thought it was good spot.

I flew into Reagan

This is where I stayed at over the summer and had no complaints. The location was phenomenal. You could walk into the street and see the White House a stone's throw away. There's a Metro stop a block away. The one mark I will give it is that there wasn't a fridge in the room.

Looks like prices are well under $200 around Easter. Use the link below to book Hilton properties for even more savings.

Looks like all the rooms I'm looking at there are 400ish a night around Easter... we'd be looking at going 4/17 weeks

Also, and this is common knowledge to many, all the Smithsonian attractions are free (or at least most of them are). With a family its a good way to kill some hours.
