Don’t worry, everyone here knows that. Except him of course.

I am a witness.

You can control the % that goes to the Government (hence the military) by staying at "Casas Particulares", using independent Taxis, and eating at the Paladares.

Go drinking in local businesses as well.
ALL HOTELS ARE GOVERNMENT CONTROLLED to one degree of another.

Thanks for the excellent review!

Could you tell me if they have ATMs to use?

No ATMs for American banks. It cannot be stressed enough. Take enough cash for your trip as an American. Our cards do not work there.

You're going to need a very detailed itinerary like that if you want to renew global entry and you've been to Cuba.

Correct. We used ViaHero to make our itnerary for us. I think it cost us $25 per day planned. All of our lunch and dinner reservations and drivers were arranged by our host. When we ran into an issue on arrival day we were able to contact our ViaHero host and she got it fixed for us.

Via hero sounds like a great way to travel. Was just reading up on it. Would help with the culture shock.

I'd think that card would work. ATMs are not as plentiful as they are in the states. You're going to want to research ATM locations and ensure that your card works first. If you choose to use ViaHero they can answer all of those questions for you. It amazed me at what I got for my $25 a day. A very detailed itinerary with reservations made and confirmed the day of. Private drivers arranged. It was a high level concierge service and made our trip to Havana less stressful and more enjoyable. In fact, it took any stress we had about the trip away.

you will not be able to use any ATMS in Cuba, unless the card was issued in a non USA bank...
and I would not count on it then either,,, hit or miss even w non-US cards.
