What are some of the must-see and must-do things?

Was going to do a day in Disneyland and a day in California Adventures.
We have 2 more full days...what next?

Griffith Park
Official Park Site
Griffith Park with Kids
You could always go to the beach. Rent some boogie boards or a long board. Watch some volleyball. Rent bicycles. Build a sand castle. Get tattoos.

Santa Monica pier. Rent some bikes and then eat down there
Hike the Hollywood sign and/or Observatory
The double decker tours are cheesy but fun to do once
Also, check out Burbank. Universal Studios, studio tours like Warner brothers
Legoland

Hey. I'm going for a week with the family in a few days. I can give you some info when I get back. By the way, I live in Geismar also.

Venice Beach
Dodgers baseball game
maybe go to a live taping of a tv show. Kids would like James Corden as it's usually very music-centric.
Legoland and Disney Land could be fun.
L.A. kinda blows.

The thought of going to LA and doing theme parks is not very enticing but the weather does it make much more tolerable than Orlando for that kind of thing for that age group.
LEGOLAND is about half way to San Diego. I took my 9 year old and he was almost too old for LEGOLAND.
Drive up to the Hollywood sign.
Santa Monica pier was neat.

Took the wife and kids in April. We rented a house in Anaheim and went to Disneyland one day and California Adventures another. Went to Universal Studios, a Hollywood tour on one of those cheesy topless vans.Went to Venice and Santa Monica beach. Took a whale tour in Newport Beach our last day and saw several whales. We were gonna do Griffith Observatory which I really wanted to do but didn't squeeze it in. Our kids range from 4-19 and they loved almost all of the things we did. They didn't really care for Venice and the litttle ones fell asleep during the Hollywood tour. Everything else was a hit.

I love Venice beach and it's my #1 recommendation for visitors (coupled with the Santa Monica pier and 3rd st mall), however, it's not the greatest place for kids 6-13.
A 13 year old would probably dig it, but as a parent you will cringe. It really depends how liberal you are and what you are willing to expose your kids too.

I'm bringing family in July for our first trip to LA I'll have 12 and 14 year old daughters with me. Venice Beach/Pier/hollywood. I don't like bringing them to New Orleans during the day because of the sights but we do it anyway and get through it. LA won't be worse than that right?
