I will be travelling to DC for a conference and will have a full day to sight see.

What museums should I check out?? a quick visit to the Tomb of the unknown soldier is definitely on my list.

Anything else??

TIA

Honestly, each museum could take a day in and of itself. I think you're better off picking one.

Air and Space gets my vote.

Thanks.

I am strongly considering Air & Space.

Also considering:
- Natural History
- American Indian History
- American History

Natural History is great. Air and Space is kind of a zoo. Also the national art galleries worth your visit. Could have spent a whole day staring at the Dutch Master paintings.

I'm a sucker for the hall of gems and minerals at Natural History....and the huge St Gaudens relief of the Shaw Memorial at the National Gallery of Art. Best museum cafe is at Native American museum.

I agree on the Spy Museum. It's something different. Oddly, I haven't seen the Holocaust Museum mentioned. You might want to look into calling ahead for it, I think you reserve a time to go through.

holocaust museum is just so sobering, it kills the soul.

It's definitely worth a visit but not if you can only spend time at one place honestly.

Air and Space is great for a day visit if you love that stuff.

Natural History is also good

If you are going to do air and space then I'd recommend going to the Udvar-Hazy complex in VA, not the A&S on the mall.

Also, Hill Country BBQ is within walking distance of the mall, just around the corner from the National Archives - good BBQ to refuel from a day of walking

he's going to spend several hours commuting back and forth to see a bunch of planes when he will be within a 5 minute walk of all the major DC museums at the mall Air and Space. He's got one day in DC

several hours

Not sure where this is coming from...you can easily get from downtown DC to Udvar in about 30 minutes during the day. It's cool though, you really showed me...so cool

Thanks Pilot Tiger.

decided to do mall and most likely natural history museum.

BBQ place sounds good

definitely don't want to spend half my day in an Uber or on subway.

Enjoy your trip.
The National Portrait Gallery is underrated. It's not on the Mall, though.
