I normally fly out of Jackson, MS, but because of flight schedules I am flying out of New Orleans on Sunday.

I've never flown out of NO before. How bad/long are the security checkpoints? Is short term parking the best place to park if my company is footing the bill? How early should I get there for my flight?

I've never needed to get there more than 45 minutes before my flight.

You should be fine on sunday.

Short term is the way to go even on your own dime. 4th floor has the crossover to the terminal.

Depends on where your gate is. Southwest and delta flights are usually fine security checkpoints for me. United or American different animal sometimes

They aren't that bad. Long term is right behind short term. It's not much further of a walk.

Make sure you go through the right security checkpoint. Unlike normal airports, there's different security checkpoints depending on which terminal you're going through. If you go through the wrong checkpoint, you have to go out of security and back through the correct one. Which sucks.

If youre not checking any luggage, I'd say get there 1-1.5 hrs early on the rare occasion security is bad that day. Yes, short term parking will be your best bet if the company is paying

I will be flying United. So that security checkpoint can be a headache? Is that due to more travelers flying United and American?

I fly two or three times of month out of MSY.

I always park at US park. I almost always fly SWA and I am TSA pre and rarely am I more than 15 minutes from parking to through TSA down concourse B. I hate we are building a new terminal.

HOWEVER, if you are not TSA pre and something is going on in New Orleans the TSA line can get a little long.

Normal airports. What the heck is that? The idea we should build a new terminal because we need one TSA check point is crazy. Landrieu just wants to spread money around.

MSY is a VERY convenient airport for locals and I doubt seriously that the new terminal will be as convenient.

I am so glad we are not like ATL. I like our airport fine.

How many time do you ever have to move between terminals at MSY?

It is not like we are like MSP or SAN or LAS or BNA---all of which have multiple TSA checkpoints.

Security is USUALLY a breeze, but I always get there at least an hour early (usually a little more, I'm anal) in case it isn't. I get there at least 1.5 early if I'm checking.

9 times out of 10 I'm through security in 15 minutes.

This, but if it gets backed up, it can get backed up bad.

It's only happened to me once, but for some reason it took me nearly an hour and a half to get through the security line.

I'd say arrive an hour and a half before boarding and you will be just fine.
