An Emirates aircraft en route to Dubai from India with 282 passengers and 18 crew onboard, including six Americans, made an emergency landing at Dubai International Airport Wednesday morning, according to the airline. There have been no reports of injuries so far. "We can confirm that there are no fatalities among our passengers and crew. All passengers and crew are accounted for and safe," Emirates said in a statement today.

Looks like it's flight EK 521 from Thiruvananthapuram. Can anyone pronounce this?

The video in the link below is even scarier...

That smoke did not look good for the plane, glad they were able to evacuate everyone before that mini fireball explosion. I'm also calling BS on no injuries, the smoke alone would be bad enough

Looked like the engine blew up and the wing flew into the air?

Ha, no but I think that's southern India, near the tip or the tip. TWSS

ETA: Look at that I got it right. Let's have a geography bee.

Looks like it attempted a go-around from low altitude, retracted its gear beofre establishing a positive rate of climb and ......

That article was poorly written. I'm still foggy on what actually happened. Guess we will have to wait.

That's the first airframe write-off for Emirates.

So basically it was likely pilot error? They tried to drop the hammer and take back off but it didn't work and they pulled the landing gear so they had to land on the belly?

Seems like an odd pilot error but maybe the winds were crazy or something.

If I had to guess, I'd say pilot error, but we don't really know anything yet.

ABC nightly news reported that the plane did not have their landing gear down, which the pilot still has control of, and the pilot continued to land possibly trying to get the landing gear down while traffic control was telling them to circle back around.

It was very windy; almost sandstorm conditions. We could see it from my office.

Is it not standard procedure to wait until you are well on your way back up to pull the landing gear?

As a side note, I was returning from Germany one time landing into Charlotte and there was very strong winds. The pilot had to go back around when we were less than 100 ft off the ground. I'll never forget it because as soon as he dropped the hammer on the throttle like 5 people around me threw up instantly. You could tell it was windy but the Pilot didn't give any directions over the speaker until well after he hit the throttle so no one was nervous before hand. It was just something to do with naturally being nervous about landing and then quick change, it was crazy how many people threw up instantly.
