I will be in downtown Chicago for a week due to work. So looking for places to eat and possible things to do in the evening. Never spent too much time there besides sitting in the airport
Thanks
Thanks

I'll be the first, but not the last, to strongly encourage you to get a reservation at Girl and the Goat.

This is not a suggestion. It's a demand. DO IT SON!
But really, one of the better meals of my life.

Love Chicago. Pick one of the legendacy pizza joints just to say you tried it. I like Pequods
I can second Girl and the Goat. I thought it would be over hyped but it was one of the best meals ive ever had.
Took in a show at second city comedy club and highly recommend.
City also has a ton of great rooftop bars
I really like Siena Tavern for happy hour and food. Wildfire Chicago is also an underrated spot.

Agreed. UCB and Second City are musts. But I'm a bit of a comedy nerd.

I am assuming your hotel is in The Loop, River North or Streeterville.
- Rooftop bars: Cindy's, LondonHouse, J. Parker, Bernie's, Raised, Up & Up (or Cabana Club), Green River, Noyane
- Cocktail bars: Violet Hour, Fox Bar, Lone Wolf, Boozebox (subterranean lounge below Sushi Dokku), Izakaya (subterranean lounge below Momotaro), Matchbox, The Drifter, Sparrow, Beatnik (just opened), Lost Lake, Barrelhouse Flat (good old fashioned happy hour deal), Three Dots and a Dash, The Library (basement of The Gage), The Hive, Heavy Feather
- Bars with a patio or open-air space: Federales, Big Star, Bridgehouse Tavern, City Winery (Riverwalk), Sportsman's Pub, The Dawson, Happy Village, Parson's, Sheffield's, Barcocina, Kaiser Tiger, Park & Field, Howell & Hood, Fountainhead, Aberdeen Tap, G&O, Village Tap, Derby, George Street Pub, Cody's, Corcoran's, Ranalli's, Small Bar, Saint Lou's Assembly
- Food: Girl & The Goat, 90 Miles, Publican, Momotaro, Au Cheval, Formento's, Pequod's, Duck Duck Goat Lou Malnati, Portillo's, Swift & Son's, Bavette's, Kinzie Chophouse, Greek Islands, Serai, Irazu, Andy's Thai Kitchen, Go 4 Food, any Mexican joint in Little Village, any Indian and Middle Eastern restaurant on Devon, Coalfire, Twin Anchors, Big & Little's, Charlatan, Pane's, Tango Sur, Roost, Ada Street, Mott Street, Birds Nest, Crisp
- Breweries / Brewpubs: Half Acre (Balmoral just opened), Forbidden Root, Corridor and DryHop (same owners), Revolution, Goose Island, On Tour, Haymarket, Lagunitas, Great Central, Band of Bohemia, Dovetail, Hopewell, Begyle, Old Irving
So much more than this, but just off the top of my head of some places I've been to.
ETA: If you're into Stranger Things, The Upside Down is in Emporium's pop-up space in Logan Square. It's open for a couple more weeks, I think.

Recently did this trip. Stayed close to the House of Blues. Walk everywhere and get a train pass.
Ate at Haray Caray's, Lou Malnati's pizza, and a steakhouse on in the meat packing district.
Caray's was ok - didn't try the steak there, malnati's was the bomb, and the steakhouse was heavenly. Would definitely recommend getting a steak while there.

Bavette's for great steaks and cocktails.
The Red Head is a great piano bar for evening entertainment.

A couple of restaurants not listed above, but are excellent IMO.. all happen to be in Logan Square, which isn't really close to downtown but easily accessible from the blue line..
Giant
Osteria Langhe (Italian/Piemontese)
Fat Rice (Portuguese/Macanese - had dinner there last night)
Quiote (Modern Mexican)
While the nature of your stay probably doesn't allow you much time outside of downtown, I have always though the real charm of Chicago is in the neighborhoods..

Never been, so it wasn't on my list, but good call -- I've heard awesome things. Only Italian place I've been to in West Loop is Formento's. Also forgot to add Piccolo Sogno.

This bumpable or too old? Curious if everything here still applies since its 4 years old. We're gonna be in Chicago October 14-17 so doing the research.

Eh… it’s a pretty old list. Some places on there have closed (i.e. Howell & Hood and Emporium’s pop-up space is a dispensary), others have fallen off (i.e. Corridor) and new has popped up (i.e. etta, Greek, Rose Mary). In general, most should still be there, but I’d definitely add/remove some names.
I can give you a shorter, updated list in an hour or two once I’m out of bed

Figured. Sounds good and would be much appreciated.
I already have a reservation for Girl and the Goat that Friday and was thinking of doing Bavettes Thursday evening on the day we arrive if I can get a reservation, unless there are other recommendations.

Hoops always comes up clutch on Chi-town info.
lots going on in the city this weekend. Whether I'm still following everything Chicago still on instagram or since a good friend of mine lives there now, seems like I stay in the loop on whats going on out there.
Great time to visit.... Went in May, then again in August... I could go back right now. Chicago is a fun and easy city. So much to do, and always so many ways to just relax...
Something we did in August I'd recommend if you are an active person... bike up to Northwestern's campus from your area...nice bike ride along lake Michigan and great scenery. You can probably break it up to see/do different things along the way to make it not feel like such a workout.
