i loved chicago when i visited last year but damn boston blows chicago away... so much history and beauty.
anyone who hasn't visited should definitely consider it.

As someone who lives in Boston, I'm going to vote for the hometown. But damn it's close....I love Chicago.

To be honest, if I was single I'd probably rather live in Chicago (talent is way better and I think the night life might be more vibrant), but as a place to visit, I really don't think it's close.... Boston hands down

Boston but they are close.
Also draw a 200 mile circle around each of them and what's within Boston's is much more diverse & interesting.

this.... in fact, you can draw a 70 mile circle around boston and there's probably more to do in that radius than 500 miles around chicago

Two of my favorite places to visit. Boston is beautiful in the fall and early summer in Chicago is hard to beat. I'm lucky to have friends and/or family in both.

This is probably true. But if you're just talking about the cities themselves, I think Chicago has more to offer.
I have considered living in Chicago (the real estate is MUCH cheaper than Boston too), but I've found my maximum tolerance for cold weather, and it's Boston winters. Screw Chicago in January.

A 500-mile radius from Chicago would include: Minneapolis, Nashville, Madison, Milwaukee, Omaha, Des Moines, Upper Peninsula, Boundary Waters, four Great Lakes, St. Louis, Louisville, Lexington, Pittsburgh Indianapolis...
Plenty of places to see in/around Chicago.
I really, really like both cities.

Less than 200 miles from Boston is a town called NYC
NYC (all by itself) > "Minneapolis, Nashville, Madison, Milwaukee, Omaha, Des Moines, Upper Peninsula, Boundary Waters, four Great Lakes, St. Louis, Louisville, Lexington, Indianapolis..."
I rest my case.

Well, considering the radius in question for Boston said "70 miles" and Chicago "500 miles," I guess you do have a compelling argument!

This is what I wposted earlier in the thread, I don't care about a 500 mile radius, that's a day's travel in a car or 70 miles.

That's fine, but I wasn't responding to you. I quoted 632627's post that used a radius of "70 miles" and "500 miles."
If you want me to respond to your "200 mile" radius, OK, I would agree with you.
Having lived in New England (specifically, Vermont) for several years, places like Burlington and New York, which are both within "200 miles" of Boston, are likely "better" than anything "200 miles" from Chicago (though I am admittedly biased towards Madison).

My 70 to 500 argument was a bit of an exaggeration but outside of Chicago itself, there is little in the Midwest that's anywhere nearly as interesting as New York and New England.

I love how this went from "compare two cities" to "compare the stuff outside two cities."

Chicago. It offers much more imo.

Winters suck for both.
Boston is a little better to navigate, everything pretty close and there are a lot of day trips you can make from Boston to the Cape, Newport Rhode Island and Maine.
Chicago is right up there, a little too spread out for me though.

Winters suck worse for Chicago. Honestly that and the South Side are the only things that stop me from seriously looking at moving there. I've seen Shameless, I don't need no Gallagher's scamming my shite.

Chicago makes NYC feel warm. Chicago in February is absolutely brutal with 40 mph winds off the lake. Coldest cold I've ever felt by a wide margin.

Only been to Chicago once but theres a good chance I might be moving up there for the next 3 years. Super pumped.
