Sorry, can't tell you much other than my Va experience.

Look up Humpback rock hike in VA. Short climb but rigorous. offers an unbeatable view.

Stop off at Blue Mountain brewery. Good brews and good views

Most of the southern half of the parkway has a resort town every few miles, several are resorts in the winter as well with small ski slopes. Blowing Rock was one nice one about half way up, enough bars and restaurants and a nice little town to walk around. Skip the local micro-brewery though.

The northern part of the Parkway (Virginia) is disappointing IMHO if you see the southern part first. Hit the side roads, they are the jewel of the trip. how are you traveling?

Give up some more info on how far you wish to travel and how many nights on the parkway, I have ridden it twice in the last few years and while no expert may know of a place or two where you plan to be

You might want to check out the Virginia Creeper Trail. Beautiful scenery and if you are into biking, the trail is a wonderful day trip or half day trip depending on your physical conditioning. The half day trip (15 miles) is mostly all down hill with the last portion being flat. You can catch the bike shuttle to the top of Whitetop Mountain and take your time coming down for this 15 mile section. Bike rentals are available for all ages. About 30 bucks each. Beautiful scenery and the leaves are just now starting to change. There are several web sites you can search and here is the official Virginia Creeper Trail Biking website. Enjoy your trip! LINK

Maggie Valley is a nice stretch. Leave your aggressive driving trait at home. Some of those winding 35 miles tiill XTown can take 2 hours. Soak it up and breathe it in No Hurries No Worries have fun be safe

For sure, but Maggie Valley is only around 20 miles into the Parkway and other than the museum has little entertainment.

Not to mention a small hill.

I travel by motorcycle when I do it. I usually camp a lot of it, especially in the Virginia section.

I really enjoy Little Switzerland Inn, it's in Little Switzerland, NC. Kinda like going back in a time machine there.

The other place I have stayed a few times is Tuggles Gap. There are some decent places to eat in Floyd which is near Tuggles, but Tuggles Gap is another time machine to crappy little roadside inns, it's popular with moto riders. Don't expect frills or a nice room here.

I have stayed there as well, cool little ice cream shop. The hill going the opposite way from the resort is a MF'er.

On motorcycle as well.

If you need to spend a night just off the PKWY, Lexington, VA is a great little town.

Did the full parkway back in May. It was long, beautiful, but gets boring if you don't make it a week long trip. We did it in a single day and a half and were miserable once we got to Shenandoah.
