I am looking to do a all inclusive beach getaway. Was needing some thoughts and experiences on this. Leaning towards Punta Cana in Dominican Republic. Prefer to be a adults only.

Have you thought of Cancun? Can usually find very cheap flights down there and Mexico itself isn't expensive. The pictures I've been seeing of the trips to Isla Mujeres looks like that's also a great place to go

I would look at the Excellence hotels in Punta Cana. They are adults only, and extremely nice. Their new one is called Excellence El Carmen and is opening up this fall.

No one is doing AIs better than Hyatts right now. Your options for adults only are the Zilara properties in Cabo an Jamaica.

Was not impressed when I went last summer on mine--stayed at the Halcyon. I think all the Sandals in St. Lucia are 'adults only.'

I'll start by saying maybe I was expecting a bit too much for an all inclusive. We got swayed to take the all inclusive route just so we could enjoy the time and not worry about planning meals, itineraries, etc. Main focus was that we wanted a quiet, relaxing trip with several beach days and good meals. We knew we weren't going to be downing booze the whole time, and since it's built in to the fixed price, we should have known we weren't going to be getting the best bang for our buck.

The only good beach was at the Grande, so we took the shuttle almost everyday to get there. Grande felt like much more of a college atmosphere (which is why we chose the Halcyon--much more secluded/intimate). Wife and I are mid-20s and like to have a good time, but it was still a little too much of a "rowdy" scene than what I envisioned for a honeymoon (DJ booth going on all day at the pool, drinking games, etc.) Then we'd have to put up with assholes on the shuttle ride back.

The food wasn't great either (kind of expected though when you are accustomed to southern food) and the beds in the room were awful (wayyyy too firm).

For the amount of money we spent, I would have much rathered staying in the states

I honeymooned at the Excellence in Punta Cana. Great resort. Adults only. Food was great, as was the entire service.

I also know people that stayed at the Iberostar in the DR. They very much enjoyed their trip as well.

I wanted to go to Jackson hole but the fiancé begged for a beach so I caved. She told me we never have to go to the beach again if we do this. I'm more of a mountain, outdoors type. She's paying for half of it as well so a win for me.

How was the hiking and fishing there?

Didn't do any fishing. We went on one excursion during the whole trip, which was basically a combo of a bunch of excursions all packed into one day--boat ride to a remote part of the island, bus took us up the mountain to the mud bath and hiked around for a little bit, went back down and had lunch at a nice little spot overlooking the bay, boat to a different bay for some good snorkeling, then boated back to the dock.

Was probably the best part of the trip, but I remember looking at the different excursions and they were all basically individual parts of this one but for longer periods of time. I heard the chocolate factory one was basically paying $225/pp to do hard labor for the day

If you're looking to stick to all inclusives, is it really going to be all that different just changing locations?
