6 hour layover in LAX & switching carriers

I have a 6 hour layover in LAX next month and I will be switching from Delta domestic to United international.
Delta said they will not transfer my luggage to United so I will have to re-check my bags once in LAX. Will united take my bags 6 hours before my flight and what to do in or around LAX with 6 hours to spare?

I can't offer advice but I will be following this thread because I'll also have about a 6-7 hour layover in LAX in a couple months.

Do people usually show up to the airport 6 hours early in Los Angeles? Yes, they will take your bags.
I've never left LAX, but from what I understand, traffic around it is a nightmare, so buckle up and enjoy a lounge if you can. Perhaps the Star Alliance lounge if you are flying Biz on that International.

By the time you retrieve luggage, switch terminals, and check luggage my guess is you are down to 5 hours. You will be fine to check it. That gives you about 3 hours to go find something to do.

Unfortunately, there isn't much to do around LAX, unless you want to do an In n Out run.
In general, the airport is a world-class hellhole and traffic around it is an absolute mess. However, the international terminal was completely overhauled in 2013 and is relatively nice. I would suggest just going there and relaxing before your flight.

Not a horrible idea. There's nothing in the immediate vicinity of lax worth visiting. The closest area that may be of interest is Santa Monica/Venice. Depending on the day and time of your arrival, all u will really have time to do is go eat.
