Waze sucks. I use Google Maps when I'm out of town.

That's when I had an iPad mini. Switched it out for a Verizon Gpad and its so much better.

Yeah haha I would just have to remember everything...
I'll re bump this thread in the next couple days with a walkthrough

Easy enough.
Flip headunit 90 degrees behind dashboard. Buy double din dash piece. Find a way to mount a tablet to the new dash piece. Wire charger to ACC 12V.
Then set tablet up as a bluetooth device with sync.

I also had an automated app that would automatically wake up the tablet when it sense the switch power source. Automatically start playing music, automatically load waze up. Automatically turn Bluetooth on a connect. Also to connect to my phone as a hotspot.
Then when I turn the truck off I had it kill all those apps and turn itself into airplane mode and go to sleep.

Yup.
You can add OBD II scanner too and read all kinds of ecu readings. Had mine send codes to the computer to remote start from text, etc.
You can do all kinds of crazy shite with a tablet.

I use Waze.
Question about it.. Do you have to be navigating to a destination to get the alerts, or can I just have it running and it will alert me to...hazards?

holy shite that's super smart and badass. Once I am done with the warranty on my car I want that.

Waze is great for driving I-95, not so great driving I-49.

No. It will automatically give you alerts. Go in settings and set what alerts you want AND set the range/distance from the alert you want Waze to alert you. I use .5 mile for example. That way I know to look for it at highway speeds. Plus one of my associates or I will not see your car doing the signature nose drive quick brake for a radar alert.

I've always wondered if I could get a ticket for it since it can play videos.

You could in AL. However, I would not write it. Almost every patrol car has an MDT (mobile data terminal/ it is a damn laptop computer). Now if it is affecting your driving, that is different. Those laws are in need of change with modern cars having in dash navigation with touch screens.

I got it to turn on, but can't find a rule to turn off waze when Bluetooth disconnects.

Thank for all the feedback. Just back from Galveston and used waze all weekend.. I like it allot. The combination of Waze and valentine 1 is wonderful

Waze is the best for traffic.
Google is better for actually locating the place once you are there.
Google also gives you more info as far as turns, street names and whatever.
Waze feels like a game right now with the easter eggs all over
