Has anyone had trouble with repeated wireless internet issues with the Uverse router? I'm on my 6th one in just over two years. Phone and tv work but wireless goes out. Its been the same thing every time. AT&T has not been able to provide any solution other than change the router.

What lights are on and which ones are blinking? I've had mine be the only electrical device that's gotten zapped during storms down here in NOLA. That's happened 2x in the last 2 years. Power strip and all.

6 in 2 years is insane though.

The wireless light blinks, everything else stays lit. Devices will pickup the router but it is not sending out a signal. Each time they replace the time frame before it stops working gets shorter and shorter. Last one was replaced 2 months ago and its stopped working again.

Well to the best of knowledge there are no other options to use other than what they give you.

Get their modem only (the little shitty one will last you years) and buy your own router

You can disable the router functionality and use your own router.

Don't think that's gonna solve his problem though. If that main "router" piece is jacked up, it'll kill his TV and Internet. It's the way Uverse works, to my knowledge.

I'm already using my ASUS router as an access point with U-Verse but didn't know they had a standalone modem available. Have you actually used it? I only use U-Verse for internet, no TV or phone.

Actually you can just disable the wireless part of the router. I did this and bought a good router and it changed everything. The hard wired part of the router that takes care of the TV is fine. It's the wireless that is so weak and loses signal. You can get in there, control the router, kill the wireless then use one of the extra Ethernet ports to feed your new wireless router. It improved our deal very, very much.

Does this involve opening up the router and disabling it?

I can't help but feel I have something going on in my house that is killing the wireless part of the router. However I have no idea what that could possibly be. It's in the open with good ventilation.

No, you do it from the configuration screen. Point your browser to 192.168.1.254

You're right, I meant wireless, which is what I assume the problem is since he didn't mention problems with wired connections.

However, it might be possible that a separate router could handle some broken routing functions by setting up a pseudo bridge mode for the uverse router. I'm assuming OP is using one of the 3800 series 2wire router.

Do you live in an apartment complex? There may be other routers nearby broadcasting on the same channel. If I recall correctly, by default they all broadcast on channel 6. You can change your channel to 1 or 11 from the configuration screen. The ATT gateway doesn't support the less congested 5 Ghz band, another reason to use your own router.

They do not have standalone modems. What brand is the gateway they gave you? 2-Wire?

I was constantly resetting mine. Finally changed to Directv. So I'm using my own router now with no problems. 2wire sucks.

Hell to the yes. Frequent resets, several times a day, sometimes several times an hour. At times it's practically unusable. It's been better lately, though. The technician told me the routers are a piece of shite and ATT is supposed to be replacing them, but he had no timetable for it.

I also suspect that another contributing factor is upstream infrastructure that needs upgrading and ATT is slow playing it. Just a hunch.
