Tethering from Smart Phone to Wireless Router

Does anyone know if it is possible to use a third party tethering app to use a USB and tether a smartphone to a wireless router? I am thinking of using my phone as my internet connection at home and broadcasting it through the house with a wireless router. I have unlimited data with Verizon and want to use the tethering option versus activating the mobile hot spot.
TIA
TIA

What's the difference...aren't you using data either way?
I used my hotspot as my home wifi for about a month and it worked fine. Thank sweet baby jesus I still had my unlimited plan then because I used about 55GB of data
If you still have unlimited, just roll with the hotspot.

I am being cheap, I don't want to pay the hot spot from Verizon. They just increased by plan by $20 a month and I don't want to give them anymore.

We use USB air cards as failover for some of our clients. Not sure if a USB connected phone would work. Check out cradlepoint, sonicwall, and watchguard to see if people have gotten that to work.

Why don't you just root your phone so you don't have to pay for hotspot?

If your router has the ability to be turned in to an access point then you can set it to do that. It should then ask you to connect to the wireless (your phone). Do that, and then setup your access point info (SSID/password etc).
It's pretty simple (at least it was on mine).
I guess that's technically doing it via hotspot, and not tethering...so not sure on that. If you're trying to tether your phone to the router via usb or something, then I don't have a clue if you can do that.

It depends on your router. Asus and Cradlepoint routers usually allow USB tethering to a cellular device, but other brands are more hit and miss.
